The battle between Australia and India for the ICC World Test Championship heads into Day 5 from The Oval in London. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEST).
In their unlikely quest of chasing 444 runs, India continues to live another day. After a horrid final session on Day 1, the Indians have slowly fought their way back into the contest.
Needing 280 runs to create history, India will be banking on ODI chase-master Virat Kohli and former skipper Ajinkya Rahane to continue their partnership and create nerves in the Australian dressing room.
The Australian bowling attack has been poor so far, with only Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland at times bowling threatening spells. However, they are far from hitting the panic buttons. An early wicket on Day 5 will shut the Indian-backed Oval crowd up and get control back into the contest.
Venue: The Oval, London

They both deserve respect. They have been great servants for us. It’s unfortunate but one of them has to make way for Boland

It could prove worked out which two teams make the final from all the two year calendars, maybe imagining Packer started it with WSC time. Anything can happen in a final. WI’s prob win first few, Eng sort of strong in 80’s, maybe SA strong teams in 90’s pull it off or Pak, India doing well from 2000’s onwards

Travis Head is your POTM (and a deserved one) for his counter attacking 160 odd. Took the game away from the Indians in day one. And now it’s time for me to forget all of my subcontinental roots and remember that I am 100% Aussie with the Ashes coming up on Friday

Lyon now on 487 Test wickets - should have 500 in the next month. Really quite incredible.

A good Test Match. 5 days ..Kinda rare lately ..Not a great match though because in the cold light of day Australia in control from day 1 . But it was again and I might add rare these days a good Test Cricket wicket ..So what are England going to come up with this Ashes series ? Fair wickets ? Kinda neutralises bazball methinks ..Flat tracks ? Spiteful pitches? As they did against South Africa but losing the first Test and relying on the toss to get advantage next few games ? Can England compete on an equal footing against this current Aussie team on a good cricket wicket ? Answer ..No ways ! Watch this space .

Australian cricket news part 2 which is a County Div 1 watch with two Aussies in Sean Abbott and Sam Hain in action Abbot is on fire taking 3/19 off 7 overs the last time I checked cricinfo. That’s 22 wickets this County season for Abbott at an average of under 22. Blossomed into a quality red ball bowler in the past few years Sam Hain has got 436 runs in 7 innings with two centuries and one half century. Time for George Bailey to have a conversation with Hain and convince him to come back to Australia. Would be a brilliant Test opener imo.
