With 8 runs to win and two wickets remaining New South Wales came back for a second run and Chris Tremain was short of his ground. However, the umpire couldn’t use technology and had to make a call.
I'm guessing that if I check, I'll find that over the course of 3 days' play, there will have been numerous match-affecting slip-ups by well-paid full-time professional athletes.
Apparently players are allowed to drop catches, miss straight balls, deliver full-tosses etc, while umpires who must spend the entire game on the field concentrating for every single ball, aren't given similar leeway...
He was in or on the line when the bails lifted. Slow mo can't even split it. You guys who say it was out must be Queenslanders.
Captaincy cost you, not that.
TV frame by frame is likely to have shown he was safe. No one gives those. When the bail lifts, not when the stumps are hit.
The Qld television commentary was just pure barracking throughout and unbearable. I never barrack for the Blues but I did yesterday because of the blinkered commentary.
Not bowling Swepson lost that game. Don't blame the umpire.
Exactly and Qld didn't lose this match thanks to a questionable umpiring decision, they lost it because they lost 7 for 28 and gave NSW a chance. They really only have themselves to blame, not the umpires.
Of course an umpire can make a mistake, but shouldn't make one like this with a basic run out.
Benefit of doubt to the batsmen is not in the laws of cricket, but rather in the umpiring manual, but there shouldn't have been a legitimate doubt here. On the line, would be benefit of doubt if not sure, not several inches short.
So an umpire is not allowed to make a mistake? They thought the batsman was in, end of story.
There is no benefit of the doubt in the Laws of the Game, so that doesn't apply here.
"the umpire couldn’t use technology and had to make a call." Just like all the lbw calls during the match, how many of those given out and others given not out were 100% correct? At home a full strength Queensland team should have beaten that NSW team comfortably.
Here’s my suggestion: BBL generates more money than SS, but SS is way more important. So use revenue generated in BBL to facilitate video technology to assist umpies in SS, but scrap it in BBL because there it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day though, that run out should have been confidently and comfortably given by any half competent umpire at levels way below first class.
A third umpire makes sense. In fact they already have a match referee don't they? Surely that person could take on the additional role and then "roll the videotape" on run outs?

The star-studded Queensland lineup? Remind me. Looks like they were going for the Oscar for worst camera work in a sporting documentary.

Ussie changed everything by not bowling Swepson when he bowled Bazley 70 runs out. It cost 20 runs.

Hiding behind not being sure is another way of putting it. That was a 90 year old deaf mute umpiring country week type stuff.

The lost art of a fearless run out or stumping decision by an ump. I miss it. This guy has gone benefit of the doubt. Brilliant fielding.

The coverage showed real time replay before the slow mo. He looked clearly out then. The slow mo just confirmed it
