The wicketkeeper-batsman pulled out at the last minute after a directive from the team’s management to take the knee before the team’s win over the West Indies – but Temba Bavuma says he is still a valued member of the team.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Quinton de Kock has since released a statement. You can read about it here.

And kneeling won't do anything but allow white people to self-flagellate a little more.

"Founders", it started as a hashtag  ... but by all means name this scion of Karl, Lennin and Trotsky and I'll have a good read up on them...

You decry glib statements then roll with the "if you're not against it, you are for it" dog whistle strawman. And then in quick succession comes the middle aged white guy perjorative. Jak I'm against racism but would never for a second consider participating in the knee taking BLM protest. Taking a knee is not a demonstration of anti-racism. I suspect with more life experience you will begin to discern the actual issue here.

You will find that is the self descriptor used by one of the founders and borne out by their policies. Your gripe is with BLM, not those who hold a mirror up to them.

Still the main reason for BLM is warranted because very little has been done to effect the change needed. As l said on the other page the Republicans have suffered the same fate as BLM

In a land where race and entitlement are sensetive, in 25 years post freedom, there is no much that has been done to redress the past. Did qdk take the knee against Australia? His actions are similar to what the apartheid Sa team did against basil d Oliveira in the 60s. As good as a player qdk is, actions speak for a divided nation

Marxists? Is this 1955? Anything left of a dictatorship is communism to some people...

Do you take a knee when you go out in public spaces Jak? If you did, most would know what you are doing as it's a fairly widespread concept now. So I'm curious if you do? If not, why not?

Totally agree, couldn't have said it better myself! I find that taking the knee can become a meaningless hollow gesture when done all the time. There surely must be a better way in taking a stand against racism? There is an interesting article in SMH which sums it up https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/de-kock-exposes-bitter-rift-that-still-haunts-south-africa-20211027-p593he.

Discrimination is rampart in 2021. I support players taking a knee in solidarity for those discriminated against , especially in 2021 in Victoria, NSW, NT and WA whereby state wide discrimination is now in law creating medical apartheid in Australia. We need others to take the knee for those in Australia and overseas who are discriminated against. It's like Rosa Parks all over again, but worse. This time people can't even get on the bus. In America the apartheid there is massively in favour of discriminating against those of darker skin. I applaud sports people taking the knee because all lives matter, not just those who have been given the deadly jab.

Have you actually done any research on the BLM organisers? Or are just assuming because it fits your world view? Have you seen what they actually say?

Yeah because there’s nothing like decrying racism than pointing out the racists by identifying their race and age and whatever other tripe you can dig up

The BLM organisation is full of Marxists oh dear. How many more cliches can you fit in? You wouldn't know what a Marxist was if they smacked you in the gob. Friggin hilarious reading the excuses trotted out. It is truly pathetic.

Jak, observing how quickly identity politics dominates discussion and stifles debate on just about every issue these days, I'm convinced that in cases like this, it's much better to persuade people and let them make their own choice, than to mandate it. The reality is that a lot of people will get their back up if told they must behave or speak a certain way, and once in their bunker, it's impossible to move them. Condemning them will never change their minds. In this instance, I think team management would have been better off saying they fully support, even encourage, players to take a knee as show of support for the elimination of racism in sport, but acknowledge that it is an individual decision to do so. Maybe de Kock would still have declined, but at least there would be a chance, over time, that he and others would see that it is important. Play the long game, in other words.

Depends what's required to "stand against racism". If it's getting rid of people that legit don't like minorities, then I'm in. If it's splitting society into racial categories and prescribing them status due to historic oppression then I'm out.

Part of the issue I have is that taking the knee is seen primary as giving support to the BLM organisation as opposed to the issue of racism. The BLM organisation is full of Marxists with many nefarious objectives.

Its Racism in reverse from my perspective Rubbish. There is no such thing as "reverse racism". It's either racist or it's not, and asking your employees to show they stand against racism is not racist. If you are not against racism, then you are for it. There is no middle ground. The cry of "it's reverse racism" is a dog whistle muttered by mediocre guys (usually middle-aged & white) who are scared because they are being "told what to do.........and no-one tells me what do."

Its Racism in reverse from my perspective. Yes poorly handled by SA. Im all for anyone doing it by choice but certainly not in favor of making it compulsory.
