Sunday afternoon coverage of the NRL starts off with the Cronulla Sharks and New Zealand Warriors facing off at PointsBet Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:05pm (AEST).
It’s been a cagey start for the Sharks, but they are back on home territory after three consecutive trips spanning across Sydney and the ACT. The Sharks were buoyed by the return of halfback Nicho Hynes as they won their derby game against St George Illawarra Dragons 40-8 at Kogarah.
While the win was nice, coach Craig Fitzgibbon would have been more pleased with the defensive effort to keep the opposition to single digit points. Fitzgibbon has retained the same starting 13 that won last week, but will miss the services of Oregon Kaufusi who is serving his 11 day stand down period after a failed HIA last week.
There’s a bit of quiet confidence amongst the Warriors. They’re finally back on home soil permanently, they’ve recruited well and they’re currently sitting on fourth. Is it their year? Probably not, but the signs of improvement are definitely there. Shaun Johnson is starting to rediscover his old mojo, and the Warriors will need that with Te Maire Martin out due to a head knock.
It would have been a coin toss for me to predict this game had both teams been at full strength. But the loss of Martin for the Warriors could be one hurdle too many. And their record in Cronulla is poor.

You cl0wn… is this Jenny from Penny with a login? Not once did I say poor sharks or claim the ref cost them… it’s obvious I’m laying the fault on the sharks for the loss - must have said that 10 times. You clearly don’t get it… or can’t read properly. Anyways done on this, I responded earlier giving you the benefit of the doubt but clearly didn’t warrant one… catch ya!

By stating, oh well done Warriors.’ We were the better team but lost ‘ . Is putting crap on the Warriors win. I just questioned your view of that . Then you have to keep on about your view of poor old Cronulla being the best team, but lost because of the referees poor decisions. Again discrediting the Warriors win. Just wear the loss & move on. Your team lost because it couldn’t defend a big lead once , then not defend another lead after that. That’s how it is. Not being a troll. Just replying to your dubious view on a game in question. I prefer to just go with Penrith lost 3 times by a point this season, because the other team was better overall & defended their leads they created . As that’s how it was. However, I apologise for questioning your biased view.

No, that’s BS… I’ve not once discredited the warriors above - you’re just being a tr011.

Your problem is that you’re a bad sport. Your teams defence needs to massively improve, then score lots of points. That’s how it works!!! Maybe they’ll do that & good luck to them! Not a worry ! Until those games & when they aren’t conceding more than they score , over 30! Just admit that they lost to the better team. The truth will set you free!

You’re not going away are ya… ok, let me drop some RL knowledge on you. Two of the warriors tries were literally from Ronaldo dropping a bomb and the ball landing in a warriors players lap to fall over the line… you take those 12 points away, what do you reckon the score would be. Aside from that here are some key baseline RL stats from the game: Metres gained: Sharks 1719-1243 Offloads: Sharks 8-3 Linebreaks: Sharks 5-3 Possession: Sharks 54/46 Errors: Sharks 10-9 Try assists: Sharks 5-3 Line break assists: Sharks 6-3 Tackles: warriors 330-320 Missed tackles: Sharks 39-30 Post contact metres: Sharks All of the above shows who dominated the game, if you can’t see that - then this is me trying to help assuming you’re not a tr011

Yeah this weekend's tips have been a bit of a nightmare - a draw between Manly and the Knights, Warriors getting up, after changing my tip about about 20 times between the Dragons and the Dolphins I got it wrong, and I have no idea who will win between the Dogs and Cowboys. Didn't know Kikau was out so might get this one wrong as well

The Sharks tick plenty of boxes however lack game management. Ditto Roosters. Swap Moylan for a fit and in his prime Maloney and you have one hand on the trophy.

Yes Panthers, angry at the Panthers fans  (which is on the cards coming up) and the game is on the line.
Panthers

Well defence wasn’t exactly part of that game.

Great, you can continue with your opinion and how you view the game

I get that your Sharks were beaten by the better team on the day.

Discipline and mental focus is key, in both attack and defence – need to sort both out as the season continues. Our defence has looked weak at times so far this year, they seem to switch off. The attack is a bit tougher – they are the best side to watch in the comp because they play eyes up footy and they are quite clinical. But there’s a time where tactical discipline is needed depending on context of the game, and requires the cue in the rack with focus on completion of set and zero unforced errors/turnovers. Ultimately though if they fix the defence – they are there… can’t be too harsh on Ronaldo for the dropped balls in torrential rain as disappointing and game costly as they were

I’m not going to argue with you, you clearly don’t get it…move on.

What exactly is the touch judge doing there ? Looking at the pretty rain?

Hard to disagree with any of that. Wonder how much longer Fitzy will put up with Moylan's arm grabs near the line and bring in Trindall. Talakai can miss a few tackles too, and poor play the balls coming out of your own end are unforgivable. We have plenty of depth so it's not like some changes can't be made. Great though from the Warriors, they are a steely side and play with belief. Good on em.

Cronulla had everything going for them at 20-0. Flashy in attack , yet lost . All adds up to NOT being the better team on the day. Better luck next week.

One game to go to complete Round 5 & so many close games so far this year. Last year we were bemoaning all the blowouts & blaming it on the rule changes & uncompetitiveness of some sides. Even though both Manly/Newcastle & today’s game weren’t exactly displays of gritty defence, as a neutral, they were both entertaining & thoroughly enjoyable.

Mate sometimes things don’t make sense. This was one of those times. This was just one of those can’t explain it days. I support Manly. I’m used to it,

That was 1 tough kick. Over 30 from the sideline, against a breeze. Like a 45 metre kick with the posts looking closer together. Agree Reynolds would kick it & Mitchell when he’s angry at something.
