Re: PVL’s comment on gambling & “his betting on first try scorer” is irresponsible in view of the societal problem gambling can create. I recognise that despite his “bull at a gate” attitude.he successfully guided the game through troubled Covid waters (apologies to Simon & Garfunkel) however his general attitude at times leaves a lot to be desired. Ange needs a bigger challenge. The Scottish comp (apart from Celtic & Rangers who regularly fail in the Europeans Cups) is a tinpot League equivalent to English Divisions One.

Wearing his NSW “racing hat”, PVL sees Victoria as the enemy & has deliberately scheduled big race days to clash with similar high profile meetings down south. He is displaying the same attitude with Rugby Union. In both cases, the sporting public would prefer to see the “combatants” live in harmony as the level of sniping would be castigated if little children were involved let alone “grown men”.

Re: Artie. Still recall him attracting 2 or 3 defenders then slipping a pass to one of the fastest players over a short distance, Kevin Junee &quite often the move would produce a try.

Alfie may have slowed down a little however his “game management “ skills haven’t dimmed.

I understand you referring to Dugan & Carney as “troublemakers” as they were repeat offenders yet Wighton was “alleged” to have done something a lot worse. Canberra stood by him. What price loyalty?

Good morning Tony. How times have changed. Players were “one team players” until around late 60’s/early 70’s when Manly raided other sides (notably Wests) & Easts also enticed players from elsewhere. With the advent of the salary cap & subsequently, player managers, movement of players is constant & very few will play out their their career at one club. Thoughts.

The salary cap alone as you pointed out Paul, is not a panacea for the majority of clubs to taste GF success. With apologies to George Orwell “All teams are equal but some are more equal than others”.

AFL had State of Origin (since discontinued). NRL adopted the idea & has been a major success. AFL had interchange, NRL introduced something similar. Perhaps the NRL should follow AFL’s lead & get rid of the sin bin & send offs. Only joking.
