Round 27 of the NRL premiership continues this afternoon when the Dolphins take on the Warriors at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:00pm (AEST).
Arguably, these two teams have been the big surprise packets of the 2023 season. However, whilst the Dolphins have found it difficult at the back end of the season, the Warriors have locked away a top 4 spot. They will get to host a final sometime over the next few weeks in front of a raucous Auckland crowd.
After a start to the season that amazed fans, the Dolphins have won just 2 of their last 13 games. That trend continued last round with a 34-10 loss to the Cowboys. Injuries were always going to challenge the Dolphins’ depth and so it proved to be.
Still Wayne Bennett has done a job with this team that few could have achieved. The Dolphins are active in the player market and will be a stronger force next year.
Jesse Bromwich returns from a groin injury to lead the Dolphins in their final game so Jarrod Wallace reverts to the bench. Prop Josh Kerr misses the game through suspension, with Max Plath joining the bench.
The Warriors are probably not playing to their full potential right now, battling their way to an 18-6 win over the Dragons last start in Auckland. However, they have been banking the two points and deserve their top 4 spot.
To me, the Warriors have modelled themselves on the Panthers. They feature a big mobile park, classy halves and a hard working back 3. Sound familiar? The Warriors can do some damage in September.
With the top 4 spot sewn up, Andrew Webster is resting a host of players. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Shaun Johnson are all having a week off, as are Wayde Egan and Addin Fonua-Blake. Luke Metcalf and Tohu Harris are on the injured list.
One side is playing their last game of the season. The other clearly still wants to win but not at any cost. The Dolphins will spring a bit of an upset here. Dolphins by 6

Cause they broke a rule.

Either game for the Warriors will be tough and it really doesn't matter Penrith or Brisbane in terms of quality. Resting players always a tough call, but this time I think it was the right call.

Panthers will be desperate to win tonight so they can face the Warriors.

Thanks for following the blog this afternoon. I will be off to watch the Sharks tomorrow afternoon but back with all 4 semis next weekend. It is a great time of year to be an NRL fan!

The Warriors were missing players but were disappointing. It remains to be seen as to whether resting players will help or hinder them. They will finish 4th on the ladder. If the Panthers win next, they will travel to Penrith next weekend. If not, they will be back at Suncorp

Good game Phins, nice finish to your season. Can’t read too much into it for the Warriors with so many players out. I think they made the right call to rest them - huge game now on Friday night.

The Dolphins have finished their season in style with a dominant 30-10 victory. The Warriors scored the first two tries of the second half and looked back in the game. However, the Dolphins got a bit more possession and capitalised

Now I need a Cowboys win, don't care about the minor, just want the Broncos to play the Warriors next week...

Reminiscing of the days he ran an edge for the Storm. Should’ve given him the kick as well.

Well done for Kenny B! Great win to finish what I think has been a good season for the new team! When Flegler and Farnworth arrive in 2024, the Top 8 looks like its a genuine possibility for Redcliffe PHINS UP!!!

79' TRY DOLPHINS Hammer with a carry. Nice touch from Nikorima for Isaako. Swing right for Niu who ducks back inside and is through the gap. He finds Kenny who gets his way to the line. TRY Dolphins 28 Warriors 10
