The Manly Sea Eagles will be looking to return to the winners’ list when they host the North Queensland Cowboys to kick off Round 14. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary tonight from 6pm (AEST).

It has already been quite a resurgence for the Sea Eagles in 2021. Winless after four rounds, the return of Tom Trbojevic has seen them ride a wave of momentum into sixth spot on the ladder. That was halted somewhat before last week’s bye round, an unexpected loss to the Knights just their second in their last eight starts.

The Cowboys too have burst to life after a lacklustre start to the year to sit eighth at the halfway mark. Their last-gasp win over the Warriors before the bye round was their third win from their last four games.

Each team will be sweating on their Origin stars, who have all been named. With this one taking place just 48 hours after a bruising State of Origin 1, we are likely to see some omissions. For starters, Trbojevic won’t be playing, the NSW Man of the Match rested after his stunning performance on Wednesday. However, Maroons skipper Daly Cherry-Evans has been named to play, and should be desperate to atone for the Blues demolition job with a solid performance for his club. Meanwhile for the Cowboys, Kyle Feldt will miss after copping lower-back bruising in Origin 1.

Both sides have named extended squads to cover for their Origin contingents. Manly are set to welcome back Kieran Foran and Dylan Walker for this one in timely boosts, with Walker to replace Tommy Turbo at fullback. Tom Dearden will play his first game for the Cowboys in the halves after a mid-season shift from the Broncos.

The Sea Eagles have won the past two meetings between these two, but the Cowboys have a surprisingly good record at Brookvale. They have won five of nine clashes between the two at the venue.

Prediction:

This is a hard one to tip, given we are unlikely to know just how each team will line up until just before kick-off. The Cowboys have shown spirit of late and aren’t the easybeats that we often saw early in the season. However, they have been getting home by outscoring their opponents rather than defending their way to victory.

It is likely to a be a slower track on Brookvale on Friday night, and that would suit the Sea Eagles just fine. I think Manly will kick their way to victory in this one with a very professional performance.

Wow. Had this one pegged as a Cows close win with an Origin shagged DCE/Jake and no Turbo. Got that wrong and loving it. The whole club just surged to another level. May it last.

Just one of those nights mate, we’ve had plenty this season ourselves. Plenty of time to right the ship

Newcastle problem is a Gallen, McGuire issue in my opinion. Blokes trying to be a one man team. Leading the T and RM stats and achieving a loss?

I tried to make her a Saints fan but she didn't like the red V on the jerseys.

The Cowboys gave Clifford to the Knights so they had him for the split round and they had a halfback. Also Cowboys could get Dearness to settle in over the bye round. We helped the Knights and the Broncos helped us.

You could be right. At least Chad has a kicking game. Tom has a long way to go.

I thought it was a four way shuffle and Townsend was coming early also. Maybe the Sharks are shafting the Cowboys until after next round? They have never really done the right thing by the Cowboys if they thought it might hurt their chances? We have the Sharks next week? They might think about releasing him after that and they have left him out for a month to lose fitness?

Not of the purple thing surely. I could handle a Manly fan in the family but Melbourne ? Not in this household.

Fulltime The Manly Sea Eagles have run out convincing winners tonight over the North Queensland Cowboys. In a good sign for the club, they did it without gun fullback Tom Trbojevic as they aimed up in a complete team performance. After a slow start, the Sea Eagles held a commanding 28-12 half time lead, and went on with things in the second half. Less than three minutes after half time the Sea Eagles extended the lead with Kieran Foran. It was DCE setting it up with a neat little kick towards the posts. In the 51st minute the try of the game as Reuben Garrick took a lacklustre Cowboys kick on his own 10, beat several defenders and ran 90 metres to score. It would be a successful return for Dylan Walker too, streaking through to score in the 66th minute off a set play by DCE, kicking on the first tackle. The Cowboys would earn a brief reprieve in the 73rd minute, crossing through Habisu Tabuai-Fidow. But the Sea Eagles would get the final say, DCE again proving for Brad Parker with a lovely cut out ball. Garrick would slot his seventh conversion of the night to bring up 50. It was a bad night for the Cowboys who started so well, but once the pressure was applied failed to find any answers. They have some soul searching to do after a positive month or so that saw them up to sixth place. For the Sea Eagles, they are finding form at the right time, and getting all their players back. They didn't have a bad player tonight. DCE set up 3 tries and tested the Cowboys along with Foran all night. Reuben Garrick got through a mountain of work and ran for over 300 metres. The starting props were strong. Karl Lawtown was busy. Dylan Walker looked good off the bench. With some teams above them looking a little shaky, if the Sea Eagles can keep stringing them together they could go anywhere in this competition. Especially with Tom Trbojevic back. Thankyou for joining me tonight. Enjoy the rest of the weekend of footy

That was perhaps the worst pass to support player I've seen in a while. That limp wristed floaty thing was aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I can’t understand how bad they all wanted to be. It was like they were completing to be the dumbest player on the park. And leading the way was the young bloke straight from the Broncos.

Oh well another 50 points scored against a Qld team. Have to check who the Broncos are playing.

Cheers jimmmy. I did not expect to wrest back control after being 12 down. Especially given the Cows performances over the past month. You are better than tonight’s effort

I still haven't heard anyone say why we let him go now. I get he was gone for next year but why NOW.

Enjoy HY. My miserable week is your joy. The Cowboys were pathetic and deserved a flogging.

Well done Manly , way to good even without the champ. Sorry we couldn't provide a little more competition for you. I don't think games like that help anyone and we were not near NRL standard in that.
