Round 27 of the NRL premiership continues this evening when the Penrith Panthers take on the North Queensland Cowboys at BlueBet Stadium in Penrith. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:30pm (AEST).

Despite a few wins by big margins as of late for the Panthers, there was a feeling that they weren’t at their 100% which could be exploited as the season went on. And that’s exactly what happened last week with the Eels hammering the Panthers by 14 points. But what would hurt them more is the shoulder injury to Jarome Luai.

While Jack Cogger is a handy backup halves partner, the Penrith attack looks to be more one dimensional without the Samoan superstar. In a big boost for the hosts, Dylan Edwards and Sunia Turuva return to the Panthers backline.

Despite winning only one of their past four matches, the Cowboys are still in with a chance of playing finals football. But they will have to do it at arguably the toughest ground to win at. Following a thumping victory against the Dolphins in Brisbane, Todd Payten has stuck with the same 17 to get the job done in Sydney.

Prediction

While the Panthers could change their backline last minute as they’re guaranteed a home final in week one of finals, I think they’ll keep Cleary and Cogger in the halves to form a combination with Luai unavailable. But I think the Cowboys will win in a tight contest out of their desperation to make it into finals football. Cowboys by 1

We are what we are Sporacle. We definitely are a top 8 chance with a few improvements but a premiership is quite a way away imo. Still love those Cowboys.

Questions remaining. Will storm win again at suncorp? Can the mighty chooks defeat either sharks or knights? Who will get coach of the year? Sheens, Ciraldo, Griffin,Demetriou or Big Sam?

FULL TIME PEN 44 NQL 12 The Panthers have showed their dominance despite a slow start to 2023 and have won the minor premiership. Massive momentum to build on for finals as they take on the Warriors next week for the qualifying final. The Cowboys didn’t turn up for the first half and by the time they did, it was too late. Thank you all for joining. Off to a short break and I’ll be back for Knights v Dragons.

Warriors regretting the resting strategy. Although to be fair the Dolphins likely would have beaten their top side too.
