2021 comes to an end for the Wests Tigers and Canterbury Bulldogs as they clash with pride on the line in Redcliffe. Follow along with the final game of the home-and-away season here on The Roar with live scores from 4:05pm (AEST).
For the ninth season in a row, the Tigers will only be spectators in the finals, after yet another disappointing year under Michael Maguire. There have been moments, including an upset win over the Origin-affected Panthers, but it has by and large been a season of treading water. At least they won’t finish ninth, with 11th the highest they can reach with a win here.
As for the Bulldogs, they will hope 2021 was rock bottom, with just two wins and a series of off-field issues plaguing the club throughout. Coach Trent Barrett has his work cut out for him to turn this ship around – a last-round win here would at least give fans something to be hopeful about heading into an important off-season.
The Tigers farewell former captain Moses Mbye as he heads to the Dragons for 2022, should he pass a concussion test; while Alex Seyfarth is sidelined. At the Dogs, Jake Averillo is a chance to return from a foot injury, while Corey Waddell is back from suspension and replacing Matt Dorey in the second row.

Did the Tigers miss the bus?

But it must be hard for him coaching with Tourette’s Syndrome. At least after watching that awful documentary series, that’s what he suffers from.

Well I picked up the odd phrase when I was seeing a more mature lady of French extraction some years ago. She taught me some lingo and cultural practices. Amazing what champagne can do.

I was being delicate. I’ve run across lots of blokes like Back Door over the years. I used to keep a forty foot pole handy in order to keep a distance.

They can't, they have to keep both names as a part of the license

Benny is the reason Balmain have no money. He should not be allowed with a million miles of the club

That would be worse after the last debacle of him trying to buy the league's club site .

He left Manly just to get doors slammed in his face for a couple of years, that was followed by a disastrous stint at the Eels. In all honesty i thought he was done for after that and yet he managed to have a good career at the dogs. Good for him, he’ll do well in SL

You’re exactly right. The same old stuff just always fails. Money is their problem, and I’m in admiration of Wests patience. Realistically they have probably wanted to take the Balmain crew out to the backyard for years now. West’s will be dragged down the plug hole with them, mark my words.

A quarter of those wins were against the Dragons soooooo….

Maybe they could do worse then letting Ben Elias buy the team. Good business man, club legend and loyal Balmain man. They can't keep doing the same thing and hoping for a different result.

Has to be Madge though, the man is a disgrace to coaching

Balmain are Broke. Tigers are a good brand, but Magpies has been trashed as a brand- for no apparent gain. There is sentimentality about Balmain and the good old days for sure. But sentimentality comes at a high price, and the future is ahead and not behind.

Good in him. I sort of think he shouldn’t have put on the hair shirt and sandals for that two or three years after his early stint with Manly. He was really promising then and I feel the Church business just took that je ne sais quoi off him. I think he could have gone even better in hindsight, but a great player, and a solid Dogs man in the end.

Won't happen. The Tigers name is one of the most valuable in the comp and the NRL will never let them drop it. Certainly its worth more than Wests.

Absolutely spot on mate. They are a disgrace. The Board are Buffoons and it spreads from there. When are they going to bite the bullet and drop Balmain and just let Wests get on with it for all our sakes?
