Bulldogs slammed after Kyle Flanagan breaks down at press conference

By The Roar / Editor

It comes after the Bulldogs halfback was dropped for the game against the Raiders.

This bizarre reaction to a bit of emotion when talking about his father will do far more damage to him than being dropped. Pretending he didn't handle the press conference well and then putting a spotlight on it is a strange way to show concern for a bloke.

Agreed TB. Canterbury and Flanagan were conveniently 'used up' as a cause for argument. Flanagan has survived the stronger and Warburton will be wiser. The club should appreciate the vigour of your support. We certainly do.

Come on Barry, Flanagan senior is on Fox's books now, they've gotta look after their own. This whole thing seems massively hypocritical. These journos would be absolutely creaming themselves at the thought of the kid getting emotional in a one on one interview, but it's bad optics in a press conference so better quickly blame someone that wasn't asking the questions...

Yeah, Fox ran exactly the same story in at least four different articles on Facebook yesterday

Totally agree with Crawley, Hooper, Kent, Richie and of course Buzz that are all dropkicks. The kid got emotional about a family question which had nothing to do with football. No shame on anyone if he has a close bond with his dad except the yobbos ask those questions. The media want to blame everyone for him being emotional? Don’t push the kid on a personal question and then carry on about the kid having an emotional response.

And I you kk I really just fail to see what Canterbury or Flanagan has done wrong here to warrant the tirade from Crawley Off the back of that has been a lot of uninformed comment from people that clearly haven’t watched the entire press conference If this “story” demonstrates anything it’s the power of the manipulative media...

TB, I respect your opinion and the manner in which Flanagan responded. I remain sympathetic to his emotional reaction to some questioning. Maybe Canterbury are stronger as a result . That can only be a good thing.

Anyone remember the preseason press conference where he lauded barrett for having his back. No? Apparently neither does barrett.

Learned from what? There’s nothing wrong with a young player - particularly a playmaker fronting the media He answered questions about his football calmly and professionally. It was a question about his relationship with his dad that got him briefly choked up What’s the lesson - don’t let the media ask questions about his family? Flanagan did a full press conference a couple of weeks ago before the Eels game. Where were all the experts then talking about his well-being Honestly, watch the full press conference. Flanagan talks evenly and professionally about his form, getting hooked against the Dragons and where his game needs to improve This really is a media beat up and putting more pressure on the kid than the Bulldogs have...

TB, I was of the same opinion as Dutski. It was disturbing to see a young player in that situation. That dominated my thinking. Both he and the club will have learned from the experience.

for this very reason - they get clicks, and then they milk it. One of them makes the stupid claim, the website gets thousands of hits, 360 make it the biggest issue in the game, the next day one of the other clowns runs a counter article, thousands click on it, 360 talk about it, repeat the next day with a new issue

He was poor last year. He was dropped mid-season because of his form, and the club punted him

What annoys me most about Crawley and Co is that they are very selective about what they get outraged about, it seems certain teams are exempted from their criticism, but there is always a bullseye on the Bulldogs and a few other teams> This is such a blown up out of all proportion thing - I am sure that the Bulldogs would not have forced Kyle to front the media. I remember after he was dropped permanently by the Roosters he did do a lot of media interviews in which he was fairly emotional. From the outside looking in I would say that he is very close to his father and somehow feels that he is letting him down. That is not on the bulldogs and the 360 mob should pull their head in.

I’m hot under the collar about this one Crawley’s a hypocrite… by deliberately misreporting what happened he’s actually creating the high pressure environment for Flanagan that he’s accusing the Dogs doing Salivating at a young bloke getting emotional about his dad so he can do a hatchet job on player and club…

" the bottom feeding lowest common denominator grubs " Hope you haven't got a copyright on this TB. There's been more than a few occasions where I've been searching for the right phrase to describe certain "people" and this works for me. By the way, excellent call on what really happened in the press conference.

Protect him from what though? Questions about his dad? That the Dogs somehow failed Flanagan really is a dirty media beat up…

Not what I'm saying. I'm just saying bloke's just been dropped and maybe the way to protect a young player who is low on confidence is not put him out there. He fronted up. Good on him. Hope he gets his mojo back and plays some good footy.
