Gallen makes bold threat if Sharks' premiership is stripped

By The Roar / Editor

If the Sharks were stripped of their 2016 premiership, co-captain Paul Gallen says he would not hesitate to quit the game ‘immediately’.

No coincidence that the NRL is being set upon during Beatties watch.

Just cop it on the chin Fallen you big soon. When Melbourne had their points and premiership stripped, you didn't see Slater or Cronk threatening to quit the game. They just took it on the chin & got on with it all.

That's a mighty generous offer from Gallen to help Sharks get salary compliant for this season.

The best thing for the Sharks would be to rid themselves of Gallen as quick as possible. Too much toxicity

If you think for one moment the Sharkies hadn't breeched the cap in 2016, when years prior and after they had 'crashed through the barrier' ..... have a little look under you pillow tonight, see what the tooth fairy left you.

Gallen is the poster boy for the "I just don't get it" club. It's always someone else who is to blame.

Lets hope the door slaps him on the arse as he leaves. He can stay if Melbourne gets its Premierships back.

Thanks for digging that up - that was important to me - what Gallen thought/said in 2010. What he said "I’m sure that they might have known,” actually doesn't make sense. He is either sure, or thinks they might have known, can't be both. He is right though that the administrators should be punished. Plenty have been in the last 10 years, not just Storm officials. Why are the Cronulla administrators from the time avoiding punishment? Just because Russell is an honest bloke?

well NRL you had set a precedent when you stripped Melbourne of its premierships minor premiers made it play the whole season without getting points so made the storm get the wooden spoon? Gallen suck it up princess, just like Melbourne's players they didnt know how much they were over the cap but that mattered very little to the NRL and they went on and still played the 2010 season knowing they would not get any points and didn't loose heart or dummy spit like your doing they just GOT ON WITH THE GAME! and made sure they would have won the minor premiers that year if they were getting points . . . .and what did you say in 2010 gallen . . .and then we gear that you have cheated to get your premiership "Comments ... Paul Gallen. Source: The Daily Telegraph CRONULLA enforcer Paul Gallen has highlighted one of the central problems with the NRL's salary cap - that most players wouldn't knock back financial inducements even if they knew they breached the rules. The Australian and NSW representative's provocative comments come only days after the Melbourne Storm suffered the humiliation of being stripped of the 2007 and 2009 NRL premierships for rorting the cap over five years. "I'm sure that they might have known," Gallen said when asked if Storm players would have had knowledge that they were playing a part in breaking the salary cap. "But at the end of the day, I would have found it hard to knock back and a lot of people would have, too," he told BigPond Sports Weekend. Gallen's remarks are a worrying sign that not all players fully realise the seriousness of the penalties that can be dished out to NRL clubs for illegitimate player payments. And that is despite the Storm scandal that included the club effectively being rubbed out of this year's competition, fined $500,000 and forced to return $1.1 million in prizemoney on top of losing premiership and minor premiership crowns. Not to mention the subsequent loss of major sponsors such as ME Bank and HOSTPLUS in the wake of the controversy and question marks over the club's future. Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah said players tended not to ask whether everything they were receiving was above board. "It's very confusing for the people that run the club, let alone the players," he said. "As a player, you're just happy to get your money and all the perks that come with it. You don't ask too many questions." Storm management remain the major focus of the NRL's investigations into the club's dodgy accounting practices and no hard evidence has yet surfaced that players were aware of the scam. But Gallen's attitude is hardly going to fill rugby league fans with confidence in the salary cap system. An NRL spokesman said: "The players are aware of the rules and aware of the risks." http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...heat-paul-gallen/story-e6frep5x-1225858516505"

A defiant slow walk onto the field with your team mates for the cameras just like the Storm did after they were stripped of their titles is the way to go before you quit Gall. Not sure what it proved but it's the benchmark reaction it seems. Maybe they should give the Storm the titles back and unleash a free for all on cheating the cap.

He knows that Cronulla have gotten off lightly yet again and that Smiths comment pretty much calls them out on that. Gallen ought to have been banned for the Peptide scandal and he should never have had the chance to win that ring anyway. Its a dirty premiership awarded to the dirtiest club in the comp.
