Whereas if I was a Warriors fan I’d think “Thanks Roger, you’ve given your all to the club time and again, season after season, even when nobody around you seemed to be trying. I can’t ask anything more of a player, and you’ve earned the right to have the club give you this small thing in gratitude. Thankyou, go well, and all the best for the future.”
there's only 1 oppinion that matters to Paul Kent and that's Paul Kents. Look at NRL360 - if someone is talking he shouts over the top of them so they have to stop talking - he doesn't have the decency to let them finish what they are saying, and when he is talking - everyone must keep quiet until he finishes.
PK makes a good point - it's a contract, its sponsorship, its fans. As a sponsor or a fan, I would want to see RTS play rain, hail or shine, win or loss. He is the marquee player, he is the drawcard. By simply, saying we're not going to make the finals and hence RTS can go home, this is a massive cop out. The guy is a professional, gets paid $1m pa and has a contract. The Bulldogs may as well release all their players now, as hanging around in the NRL bubble is just too stressful, pack up and go home.
Absolutely Paul. The Warriors have done exactly the right thing for a player who has given them plenty in return.
No question Roger would want to stay if they were still in the running for finals (seriously, not some slim mathematic chance), but with NZ about to close the doors, it's a perfectly sensible outcome.
Paul Kent banging on about how RTS only had 6 weeks to go on his contract completely ignores the fact that the travel bubble is slamming shut and he might be stuck in Australia for months with no football to be played. Which is the entire point of the Warriors letting him go early. It's not even hard to get that detail right. Geez the state of mainstream rugby league journalism in this country is embarrassing.
There is an exalted view of Paul Kent's importance to the game which is greater than the real reality. And I worked in the same newsroom with him for a bit.
The Warriors have said they're no chance to make the finals, there's a travel restriction soon to be in place between Australia and New Zealand, there's no pressing reason for RTS to stay and plenty to let him go, so where's the issue?
This guy's a goose.

That’s an insult to geese everywhere. How that talking carbuncle has a job of any type let alone as a journalist is one of life’s great mysteries

It says more about him than the Warriors. Didn't expect much more though.
