Super Rugby Pacific Round 10 kicks off with the Chiefs going up against the NSW Waratahs as the Melbourne Super Round begins. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6:45pm AEST.

This is going to be an exciting weekend for lots of reasons. Not only do we have the first super round of the competition with all of the weekend’s matches taking place in Melbourne, but it’s the first time fans will get to see the Australian teams take on their Kiwi rivals.

The Tahs lead the Chiefs by one place and one point on the overall ladder and after winning five matches from eight this season, the NSW side will be desperate to show that they can compete against the better sides in the competition and not just their local rivals.

Waratahs Head Coach Darren Coleman has brought in two new players to his starting line up – both in the backs as Jamie Roberts and Will Harrison get a chance to impress from the kick off.

The pack remains unchanged – the first time this season have named the same pack two games in a row.

In advance of this clash, Coleman has apparently reached out to Wallabies head coach and former Chiefs coach Dave Rennie to try and get some insight into how to beat the Kiwi side.

He has been a great sounding board for me. I am a first-year having a crack at this, and it’s my first shot having a go at the Kiwis, so I wanted to bounce some ideas off him and figure out how we are going to try and attack these fellas. It was helpful,” said Coleman this week.

The Tahs will look at the fact that the Chiefs are missing key stars Brodie Retallick, Anton Lienert-Brown and might also be without Josh Ioane and Brad Weber and think they won’t get a better chance to topple a Kiwi side. If they want to make the finals this year then these are the games they really have to win.

Prediction

The Tahs have a great opportunity here but they haven’t got enough points in them to overcome the Chiefs. Chiefs to win by 8.

That's exactly right H. Cane should play when it really matters, but we need to give the heir(s) apparent plenty of minutes too, both to look after Cane and aid development. Cane is unlikely to be around in 2027.

Schmidt hopefully will enlighten Foster on combinations. What we need is a settled team, we can’t keep rotating players around. He’s been doing that for two years now. Time to select the starting 15. Mike Cron has been brought on board as a consultant and Strawbridge who worked with Rennie at the Chiefs.. Hopefully this will help the skills of our pack. Attack coach Brad Mooar needs to up his ideas! We’re far to predictable and easily shutdown. Pretty much since that loss to England, we haven’t offered anything new or innovative since.

Yeah, we all worry every time he goes out, and NZ are lucky the next generation is showing some big form. DP and Blackadder will both get good minutes this test season, and Frizzell will be back before the internationals start. With Ardie seemingly a lock-in at number 8 I worry about our loose forward balance again, esp as we totally stuffed it up last year.

Anyone know the crowd size? It did look rather sparse in the stands, in view of the paucity of the crowd it's probably unlikely that we will be told!!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Sam Cane fan. But he’s injury prone. He is under pressure from the new loose forwards like Papalii or Blackadder who get better and better. Cane is one more injury away from retirement. I hope he lasts through the RWC.. I struggle to see him beyond that.

Look at his numbers for the season He is blitzing Dalton at every single factor of the game, except tackles which is pretty even and both are good – but esp in getting the ball back which was the All Blacks massive deficiency last international season, as well as not linking forwards and backs, which Cane has done superbly all year so far. When Cane doesn’t start things like Ireland twice and the England semi happen.

I wasn’t talking about the game against the Waratahs. I’d love to see Cane back in form! But the previous rounds vs his competition he was struggling. I missed the chiefs vs Waratahs game, had to work. But I’ll definitely watch the replay

Think you need to have a serious look at the facts before making a statement like this….

I thought Nick Berry had an excellent game. Let the game flow. Didn’t take too long in decision making. Seems like he wants the best for rugby

Albeit without real pressure. Tahs have talent but only in spots. Too flaky in the pressure cooker at this point. Robert’s was a weak link. He is not a Kahui set of safe hands. Apart from two instances of inaccuracy Tahs had a Ton of bad luck though to deal with on the run. Two hookers out? Bell must learn now. Such a tackle could kill a World Cup campaign.

I thought he got a red last year in the Aus part of the comp but looked up his record and he has 1 yellow and 1 red ( last nights ) so 3 weeks then.

Hasnt bell been sent before? If he has it has to be 5 weeks down to 4 at best. Barrett got 4 and its his second red in 150 plus games inc tests.

2 previous YCs that’s all, so shouldn’t be considered to have a history I wouldn’t have thought.

Be a man and good sport and own it. If the jerseys were switched, you would be baying for blood. It’s not as reckless as Barrett’s, but it’s up there.
