The Melbourne Rebels are at home to the Queensland Reds in Round 9 of Super Rugby Pacific. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:45pm AEST.

Reds code-hopper Suli Vunivalu returns to Melbourne, where he starred for the Storm in the NRL, for his first outing this season.

Vunivalu has been hampered by persistent hamstring issues, playing just seven times in two years at the Reds, and captain Tate McDermott was excited to see him selected.

“Suli, how good, back in Melbourne, hopefully he brings a couple of Melbourne Storm fans with him,” said McDermott.

“He started to hit his straps last year then his hammy went. We were absolutely gutted for him. I spent a bit of time in rehab with him and he’s someone who’s awesome to be around – just his aura – so James will put up a couple of kicks for him and see what he can do.

“I imagine he would have been incredibly frustrated but he’s the kind of guy who doesn’t show it. He’s been awesome for this team, the boys love him, love having a superstar around, it’s awesome for our club.”

Couldn't have said (written) it better myself ThugbyFan. I switched straight from the Crusaders Blues game and thought I was watching a funeral (in slow motion).

It's only the very odd player that doesn't crib a few metres when kicking for touch (or goal even). Couldn't agree with you more FF. Pretty spot on about the refereeing also.

He is most likely a really lovely guy and cares deeply about the game, but Strewth! He has a way of making himself have more camera time than anyone else on the field.

Perhaps they were flogged during bye week and this week in preparation for the Winter storm next weekend?

I don’t think he was disinterested, perhaps nervous? He hadn’t played for a very, very long time. I’ll give him a few more matches before I presume anything.

Thank you. If I do it again I would hope that next time I could report on a game that had merit.

It like the Highlanders against the Crusaders Olly… The Highlanders always put in their efforts against us, the Rebels showed some good signs moving forward.

The Rebels have caused the Reds some headaches in the past. I think they are just that team that can bother the Reds as they are not an easy team to push around.

Yet again week after week Murphy proves he is too slow and out of his depth to referee at this level. Misses so much and makes bad calls that ruin the spectacle. Reds were poor tonight but reffed out of the match as well. Rebels were very tough and never threw in the towel. Just once I’d like to see a ref make a kicker use the mark when kicking for touch, Hodge takes 3 metres or more every time.

Olly, it is hard to comprehend this Reds performance from the one against the Brumbies. One might think that they took the Rebels lightly, a real wake up call for them.
