The Rebels are back home and face the Sunwolves as they look to stay top of the Aussie conference. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 7:45pm AEDT.
The Rebels have been away for a month, and return to Victoria after a good win over the Reds. Impressively, they have not lost on Aussie turf this season.
The Sunwolves might be Super Rugby’s strugglers but you can’t write them off. They have won two games this year, upsetting the Chiefs in New Zealand and the Waratahs in Newcastle.
They are improving each week and love to prove people wrong. Ignore them at your peril.
The Rebels have changed up their bench for their first game at AAMI Park in a while. Pone Fa’amausili, Hugh Roach, Ross Haylett-Petty and Semisi Tupou have been selected with Talakai, Robbie Abel, Esei Ha’angana and Sione Tuipulotu making way.
Roach is set to make his Super Rugby debut, while Jermaine Ainsley replaces Sam Talakai in the front row.
For the Sunwolves, Luke Thompson, Ben Gunter, Hiroshi Yamashita, Jamie Booth and Josh Timu have been brought into the match-day squad. Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco, Hosea Saumaki, Fumiaki Tanaka, Kara Pryor and Takuma Asahara are all out.
The Rebels have a number of players in top form, including Will Genia, Angus Cottrell, Anaru Rangi and the finisher Jack Maddocks.
Prediction
The Rebels have good depth and an experienced pair of halves to lead them around. Their backline is one of the best in the competition, and in Luke Jones and Isi Naisarani, they have forwards who can intimidate and dominate.
Rebels to win by 12.

i have not said that anywhere. please refrain from assumptions. foley's form at the start of the season was not good neither was the tahs. the last games he has been better and in this last one he has done the same as what cooper has done in his game against the wolves, albeit foley was against a resurgent blues in auckland. all i am asking for is fair judgement and making the same calls on both players. which is near impossible on here and gagr now as there is a massive dislike against foley and same way over the top exaggerations. as there are some way over the top exaggerations the other way with cooper. i repeat, i want the best for oz rugby whoever they may be. what is not helpful for true oz rugby fans, is the one eyed biased commenting against one and for the other. which is happening with increased nauseous hyperbole. call it as it is, it isn't so hard. i pay credit to fionn, he wrote on the gagr site for the tahs review against the blues that foley made a good left to right pass for the tahs try. he said he didn't know he could that. i have seen him do it numerous times. he was then answered by someone who made complete exaggeration of foley's first half. lies and mistruths for dramatic effect and to fulfil his narrative of foley is terrible. same person has never said a bad word against cooper, only exaggerated his performance from actual reality in the other direction. so that is my line. apologies if you think that is bad. but after 40 odd years of playing, refing, coaching, watching all over the world. i am not in for the fan club of one player. i am in it for the great game that it is. not show ponies, players or keyboard commentators alike.

Foley does do plenty of "these"... The restart was actually pretty bloody good, the forward just grabbed it too early. Quade is not perfect, but almost any stat you wanna look at for this year, individual or team, says quade and the rebels are performing considerably better than foley and the tahs. If you can't acknowledge that than you have some serious biases. https://www.instagram.com/p/BvxjE--gZrB/

someone also said he missed a restart. my point is simple. if foley did any of these then he would be crucified on here.

Not sure on the hype you're talking about in particular but it was a good team performance overall. Rush defense, pressure in the lineout and good kicking stopped the moon doggies from any momentum. This pressure led to most of Rebels tries eg: Hodges chargedown and Meake's chase. Meakes, Coleman, Jones, Hodge were the best for mine. Maddocks defense was shown up. Quade was good although he failed to clear it from inside 22 on numerous occasions which will be capitalised on by better teams.

He did Cooper a favour in giving him a free pass to get fit and work on his tan and occasionally play rugby for the sweet pay cheque of 650k a year. As Digby said... Best job in the world. Now Quade is playing with nothing to lose and a first class team and a well respected coach and him. How is this guy not having the best life ever?

Federer dominated after his layoff in 2016 as he was able to overcome all those little niggly injuries and mentally regroup after so many years on tour. The same seems to have happened to Quade. He looks quicker than he has for a long time.

According to opta he was actually equal top tackler in the team.

Which players do you think have been hyped? Most of the praise I have seen has been for Luke Jones, whose line out work, along with Coleman, was so dominant that the Sunwolves were forced to stop kicking for touch, and whose work-rate is like nothing we have seen from a heavy loosie in Australia for years.

Less time doesn’t, meaning defenders are in charge down range, doesn’t cause kickers to have to kick on a higher trajectory to avoid charge downs?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o5ZUSbL61Y just watched these highlights. i know highlights don't tell the full story but from what i saw on this was: english took a nice run and good draw/pass. meakes pressure created wolves to crack for his try. the kick through was too long. schoolboy error of u/13 from wolves there. maddocks has tackling issues. he is not a winger and he is not intl standard by a long 3 iron. hodge took his tries well. pushing for a 23 spot even though i wouldn't have him there. as i said only 5min highlights. seems to be once again, on here and gagr, people over hyping certain aspects/players.

I thought where the Rebels would struggle this year was in the front row, which does quite have the size or experience or quality come scum time, even though I think Rangi is world class in every other facet of game and props are improving. I have been proved wrong in Aussie derbies, where they have held their own or better. But I think they'd because they are getting great support from supersized and awesome quality back-row and big international quality second row. I still think they will struggle against some of the big kiwi scrums, and that could have an impact. But game of the season will be Rebels vs Hurricanes. Similar scrums, both strong on loose, Rebs with better lineout, and the two best and most exciting backlines in the competition.

“Agree his kicking exits were short BUT the service was too slow or not long enough he always had a defender right on him, to avoid a charge down he had to kick sideways.” what an excuse, i have never heard that before when talking about flyhalves exits. in response to harry’s comment. did cooper tackle high? we all know that on here people state stats, that shall we say are, not exactly stats. more of an argument/narrative justifier.

Yes true. I wonder if he has done Cooper a favour. He does not appear to be struggling with injuries as he was at the Reds. I think Cheika’s sudden discarding of Cooper made it easier for Thorn to dispense with Cooper. Cheika’s reign has been a horror show - that he has been allowed to go on in the same way when results have continually shown his makeshift selections are not working is an indictment of RA.

Not sure about that. Saw a still on impact. Was actually a push, he makes contact with both hands first. May have been high as Meakes blocks the tacklee in the pic I saw.

Don’t think so. Parling mostly does line outs. Apparently Todd Louden does a lot of work around the contact area in attack. So it may be him.

Having watched the replay, KP, I think you have left Coleman-Phillip out as the form second row combination in Australia. Also, I am against picking the reds combination if they are 4th or 5th (last) in the local conference. You have to be party of a winning culture as well.
