Match preview:

It’s crunch time for Uruguay in this Pool D Rugby World Cup clash, but the focus will be on Australia, who have to get their act together ahead of the quarter-finals, which are just a fortnight away. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 3:15pm (AEST).

Should Uruguay lose, and not pick up any kind of bonus point, they won’t advance to the quarters. Even should they pick up a bonus point, Australia can end Los Teros’ campaign by claiming a bonus point themselves.

The Wallabies have already played their toughest pool game, and lost it, to Wales. They find themselves in third place within their group, needing to improve that position to make the quarters with two games to play, where they’ll play Georgia and Uruguay. They trail Fiji, who have just one match remaining, a fixture against Wales, which they’re likely to lose.

Australia failed to find the mark in their opening game, struggling to cope with what the Fijians threw at them, before pulling away in the second half. Some argued they were the better team against Wales, but lost the arm wrestle.

However, Cheika chose to make a number of team changes. Nic White and Christian Lealiifano step back into the halves positions, in a massive plus. Jordan Petaia will make his debut, on the left wing.

Michael Hooper has surprisingly not been rested, for what will be Australia’s easiest game this tournament.

Uruguay also field a very young side, with Agustin Ormachea taking on White at halfback. He’s just one of nine changes, notably Andres Vilaseca takes over the captaincy, as Federico Favaro slides into the right wing.

It’s almost impossible to tip Uruguay, who have never beaten a tier-one opponent. Despite the Wallabies’ struggles, you’d expect them to get the job done. Uruguay may still be on a high from their upset win against Fiji, which could work against them.

Australia by 20.

Yes, I did hear Chieka say that today, socan live with that...my bad. We have to play Petaia against the tops teams if we have any chance of beating them. He has Xfactor and speed, something that we are lacking...

Wallabies need to play a full strength side against Georgia so players can improve those working relationships. That means Peteia at 14 (full game), Dempsey at 6, DHP at fullback, kick White up the arse but keep him starting, CLL at 10.

It was only for injury prevention purposes. Actually the wise decision to make with his history

Disagree. Much better than LSL. Who else is going to play there? Pocock

In between flicking his hair, he looked very disappointed

Yes. He is the slowest loose forward I've seen in a long time at this level.

That's what I was thinking. I think for the amount of International level game time he's had this year, you can see his potential. Just may be a little undercooked against the better teams.

You’re looking for great speed at 6 or 8? Do you actually think he’s slower than Kieren Read?

I’ve been talking up Petaia leading Up to this match, and me and my family were there to witness his first start, try soon after his 2nd touch then assist on his next few touches. He looked awesome..We need him if we are gonna win against a top tier country.... Great work...let’’s give this guy confidence for the next few big games......next minute...subbed for AAC at the 40 minute mark.... WTF....

The refereeing around the ruck is a mess. Perhaps the AB's had done their homework better than us and knew this was going to be the state of play with their selections. If this is how the game is now, I think unfortunately for Pocock his effectiveness is nullified. It's not like he's not working hard, constantly talking to refs asking for clarity. It's just such a shame that they've kill some of the true contest at the breakdown.

Start Toomua at 10 with Kerevi and Kuriadrani outside him. Foley is just a waste of time.

Dempsey showed he hasn't got the speed to cut it at tier 1 level.

But pity the referee never noticed the high tackles from Uruguay after this.

Although pococks been having shockers, how is a bloke renowned for pilfering, meant to work if the ref allows all ball carriers to hold the ball on the ground for an inordinate amount of time, and makes all rucks uncontested within 2 seconds of them being formed.

Dempsey showed how one-dimensional Pocock's game is. His hands are a complete liability. Hopefully, Pocock will come out of the shadows in the quarters because he has been a complete passenger so far this tournament. J Petaia showed great feet. He looks like he can play. Exciting prospect.

Not saying lost toros weren't deserving of the try, because they were. But it was on the ruck for 30 seconds, either it was moved down to the bottom and shouldn't have been given, held up. Or moved forward on the ground through the ruck and it should have been a pen for illegally using the ruck. It's not sourness, just I don't understand the laws anymore, and I've been playing for 15 years

Not being discourteous to Uruguay, but this was more of a yawn then a game. Playing a team ranked 18th in the world and we incur 2 yellow cards in the 1st half. Not good enough. Leading to the quarters, we still have glaring crucial deficiencies which will be the undoing of this Wallaby side.
