I’ve ben a fan of Teddy’s since he was a fast, skinny kid running around for Wests. Great player in so many ways. And inspirational. But that doesn’t mean others should not be considered. Edwards plays like an origin player week in, week out. Not an automatic selection with so many good fullbacks running around but incredibly robust, involved and impactful. Would love to see him and a healthy Turbo in the same team. Agree with the point that this is the time, and with a new coach, to put some different players on the pitch. Fortunately we do have some younger players who nevertheless have big game experience. Time to be open-minded and get excited about what some of these other players can do for the blues.

Wild idea but Blues should actually pick Origin team on form this time around - and that means Tedesco’s time is up

Just got to this article and haven’t read all the comments yet. My apologies if this has least been said.
I’m a fan of Pietch. I like what looks like the influence of his 7’s experience. However I’m questioning his decision making on the fly. I’d guess he’s come close to costing the Ws about three tries in the last couple of games. He’s impulsive and backs his ability when sometimes he should settle and use his teammates. Don’t want to suggest he got everything wrong. He helped them recover from danger a free times. Just would like to see the Ws get more benefit from the opportunities he’s helped create.

'What you permit, you promote': Reds slam late 'cheap shot', HMP set to start ahead of Lynagh in Rebels grudge match

How old are you? Yearning for the good old days when men were men and became fuzzy-headed as they aged? Most people want a tough game but played fair with reasonable consideration for player welfare. It’s ugly without those basics.

That Harry Wilson fellow is versatile and impressive.

Five things we learned: The general who caught Schmidt's eye, why next week is vital for Coleman's Tahs

Ouch. I can worry about that if I want, thank you. We’ve never met and you want to make me feel bad.????

'Tough call': Reds too good for Tahs in cracking Aussie derby, as controversial penalty try, yellow to Jorgo proves telling

If you’re going to point out those things, go a little deeper and realise the reds got away with a few forward passes. One scrum penalty against the W’s was laughable and gave the reds the opportunity for one of their tries. That’s an extra xx points for the reds. Does that still make the reds win look that good?
Ridiculous of course. One-eyed speculation.

I like him, too. And he may be good enough to turn things around. But, looking at the upcoming games, it might be very difficult to do this quickly. Having said that, if Coleman can turn things around, and particularly improve defence significantly against the next few teams, his coaching future will be more certain.

He has a good lawyer to help him work that one out.

Some good moments for the Waratahs. More for the reds. For a first game of the season in the wet there weren’t as many mistakes as you would expect. So, that’s good.
For the W’s, the real problem is that their defence is too leaky. They looked more committed last night, but still giving up too many metres. The offence may start clicking better but they’ll keep losing if they give up the points.
As with the last game, Coleman was out-coached.
Have to say that the reds look the more complete team, as in players who are playing well as a team.

Agree. It’s near impossible to pick individuals out for criticism when the team was playing so poorly that individuals would be unlikely to shine. Having said that, it looked like Bell was trying to lift all the forwards out of the doldrums.
I’ve heard for years how good Les Kiss is. He’s certainly brought the reds up to speed in a short time. Among other things their ability to repeatedly get over the gain line was impressive.

'A bit deflating': Headaches for Waratahs after Reds trial thrashing, Brumbies win after Force miss post-siren kick

Waratahs were out-coached. Coleman’s days will be numbered if they don’t lift, play more to their potential and shore up their defence out wide.

'Not expecting miracles': Schmidt tempers Wallabies hopes as coach outlines No.1 priority

The list is getting long. Joe doesn’t need to go looking for asst coaches. They’re all here.????

Sounds like you think this we’ll be easy

Khawaja may not be as good as he has been at times in the past but have you seen where he was in the list of batters for runs scored over the previous 12 months? The team is VERY happy to have him there at the start of the innings.

Death, taxes and foul weather spoiling SCG Test: Umpires blasted over bad light call as Warner fails to fire for farewell

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

Makes sense to at least consider. I think we have to resist the temptation to pick a ‘name.’ Pick a good coach after considerable exploration. And make sure the interviewers ask the right questions to get past the initial bluff and bluster. I can imagine RA In the past saying all too quickly, “Oh that sounds really good, let’s just go for it.”

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

This may be a controversial comment. Here goes nothing.
I supported the release of Rennie for one reason. They were so close to producing great wins and periodically attractive play. Their downfall, in my opinion, was the repeated loss of possession and momentum from silly mistakes and penalties. Not being able to remedy those issues falls to the coach. Success in that area would have changed several games and his tenure as coach. But what does this have to do with the current situation?
We didn’t have a full blown catastrophe requiring EJs full scale upheaval, contrary to what many believed at the time. And where we go next, on the coaching front anyway, may be difficult but not another version of what EJ did.
Remember, we went close against some very good teams. If not for the silliness, the outcomes could have been quite different.
So, keep calm in order to pick the mature coach and we may recover from this mess faster than many believe is possible.

Broad didn’t walk because he wanted to teach the Australians a lesson? How generous. Our limited comprehension does not allow us to see Broad’s actions for what they were. Noble, in comparison with the cheating devils from down under. Your moral superiority and insight are an inspiration. I hope you live in the land of the rose. Wouldn’t want you sharing air with the convicts. I’m sure they would prefer that too.

'An absolute disgrace': Broad lifts lid on fiery Cummins clash over Bairstow incident - and how the Aussie captain bit back

Enjoyed the read. No real surprises but helpful to see the issues more clearly.
The Ws were painfully predictable and played ‘young’.
Even with all their injuries I’m still certain with the players we have we should have done significantly better.
One way to build toward the next WC was to create momentum. Close losses but built on reasonable skills and structure would have us all at least a little more confident in the future.
Eddie and his coaches have let the players and fans down. Tried to do too much and seemed to shift with the wind. When under pressure the Ws looked like they didn’t know what they were supposed to do except truck the ball forward. And didn’t have the confidence to do anything different.
Youth and injuries had their effects but I’m placing most of the ‘accountability’ with the coaches.

Why have you left your pint? You need to re-evaluate your priorities.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

If you are correct, and his motives and actions could be seen as reasonable, would it not also be reasonable and inspire trust if he came out and said what had happened? Clearly and directly deny that the call happened or admit that there was a call but that it was just a professional catch-up.
Seems he can’t do that or is too stubborn (which would be the generous word) to think he needs to do that.
I’ve never been a Jones-basher but this is seriously unimpressive. He’s either misleading us or he doesn’t have the respect for the rugby fans to tell the whole story. Could be both for all we know.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

Brave article.
Innovation? I didn’t see much innovation. Selecting young people is not really innovation. Not having the enough of the requisite skill and experience at 7 and 10 is dangerous, not innovative.
Having the wrong assistant coaches is not Eddie’s fault unless it is because the good ones wouldn’t work with him. I’m not saying that’s the case, but it looked like that.
Sure it was a huge blow to lose Tupou and Skelton, but the team should not have fallen apart so spectacularly.
These players deserve better than what they’ve just experienced.
If they keep Eddie they have to ensure he has more balance and better assistant coaches. If that’s not possible, you have your answer.
