It’s a virtual elimination final at Bankwest Stadium as the Western Sydney Wanderers host the Wellington Phoenix with everything to play for. Tune into this crucial A-League clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:05pm (AEDT).

The Wanderers have been a source of frustration for fans in recent times. Just when they seemed destined for finals with an upset win over crosstown rivals Sydney FC followed by a 5-0 thrashing of Western United, Carl Robinson’s team appear to have fallen off a cliff. First they were obliterated 5-1 by the red-hot Glory, then gave up their Sydney Derby stranglehold with a 1-0 loss to the Sky Blues that, frankly, flattered them.

The Wanderers have missed finals in three successive seasons, and the pressure would well and truly on if they make it a fourth. Now sitting ninth, three points and a game behind the sixth-placed Brisbane Roar, there chances are slim as it is – but a loss here would all but end their season.

Having finally returned home after a summer away last week, the Phoenix find themselves back on Australian shores. Their brief stint back in New Zealand did net them a 3-0 win over Western United in front of a mega home crowd of 24,105, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches.

This Wanderers match-up, plus their next game against the Glory, are virtual six-point affairs, with the loser likely to rule themselves out of the race. The Phoenix will be praying their strong recent form holds true.

any a league club that brings lower league UK players over to play in defence or midfield, deserves to fail. there are an abundance of talented australian kids who can already do everything they can in those positions for a quarter of their wage and are more beneficial to Australian football

WSW and Jets don’t make playoffs. What do they all have in common? Yes same Chairman. Food for thought?

Just got back from the game, great win and Nixs played the way they had to to insure 3 points. The game against Perth now is massive just hope a decent crowd show up in Auckland to support us.

It was a tactical used tonight as WSW are very tall, however unlike Roar who use it every game we just used it tonight.

Agreed Andy. The renaissance of the A League has been through a good healthy mix of young local talent getting their chance with good international recruits.

Surely Robinson gets sacked if wanderers miss the 6, they were in the top 5 for money spent This season. This is another lesson to not buy rubbish UK OAP lower league players. Cox/Dorrans/Mutch/Gordon have been stealing a living off talented kids

 Why do you play in Australian leagues then if you're convinced of "blatant bias"?

Wow, the game has descended into long hopeful hoof balls looking for a head, toe or backside to sneak it into the back of the net.

Robinson set out the Top 6 would be the minimum expectation for WSW will that come back to haunt him if they cannot equalize with about 10 to go
