Gaff rejects Roos, re-signs with West Coast

By Jason Phelan / Roar Guru

Andrew Gaff has reportedly turned his back on a huge free agency offer from North Melbourne to sign a new AFL deal with West Coast.

The star winger has agonised over the big career decision but is believed to have put months of indecision behind him on Sunday when he informed the Roos he will stay in Perth.

The 26-year-old, who missed the Eagles’ premiership triumph after copping an eight-game ban for punching Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw, is out of contract and had been mulling a return to home state Victoria.

More to come.

Right, so all the problems in the world are Sokka's fault? Fair enough. And Victorian Rules doesn't have any problems does it, especially since it's the only thing in Australia that's truly Australian after all.

I was surprised to see Gaff re sign but very glad he has. I heard Lecca may decide to retire now which will help us with the salary cap to get Kelly and also a possibility is Jarrod Brander , a 2017 draft pick for the eagles maybe in the mix for Geelong for the Kelly move to West Coast.

You said it... Care to share where you found this amazing trove of football bliss? Prefer the ads though, just that the Russian oligarchs, the Saudi princes and the Malaysian kleptocrats need the fans to have pretty strong stomachs

I thought the Dockers are using their early picks for Hogan and Lobb? But who knows always surprises in this trade period

Love how everyone was loving Gaff and North were willing to fork out 1.3 million and how he is a sheepdog. IAP you called our midfield sheep dogs the same flag winning midfield. Jog on buddy

Dr CotRod me old mate how are you going. No I prefer those games where they score 300 goals and have 500 ads and you can break someone's jaw and not get sent off. Sokka's a foreign pommie game in'nit, like cricket.

#Joe Blackswan As it is - I'd suggest Polec has elevated himself to a pretty big name. Then it's a case of semantics about whether it's a big enough name or not. At any rate - the main thing for North is they haven't lost out to an 'other' club (as Richmond did re Treloar famously choosing Collingwood). It's not easy to extract these sorts of top tier players from clubs where they are generally happy and it's more a financial issue than anything else. What it does do though is it applies financial pressure to such clubs, such that Richmond had to up the ante on Martin. Note now, while yes they are bringing Lynch in, that they have pressure at the other end and players are starting to depart. The North pressure on Kelly last year has helped apply the screws at GWS and, ironically other clubs may benefit this year rather than North extracting Kelly next year. Might be better for GWS to deal out Kelly now???

I'm not concerned that much about the North not being able to sign these big fish, Kelly, Martin, Gaff, as they all re-signed with their existing club. For me, the test as to whether you are a destination club, is when there are a number of clubs vying for the player.

I reckon Norths have dodged a bullet not signing Gaff. A quality player however a player like Josh Kelly or Tom Scully are better and would be a better fit. I hope Gaff can now smile as he always looks so miserable.

Are you still here? Watched the game yet? Looking forward to the A-League? So am I. At least you'll be on that thread and then the "world game" will continue to keep you up at night watching interminable draws between Locomotiv Yerevan and Ararat Yerevan, oh sorry , a goal each must have made it so enjoyable for you.

It is great to hear that Gaffy is staying with the Eagles. Looking forward to seeing have a premiership Medal and a Brownlow Medal next year in 2019. Well Done Gaffy. Go Eagles.

They can offer $1.5 m to Lachie Neale at the end of next year...or trade him this year for Ben Brown.

Kelly's manager was adamant he was not interested in Freo. Eagles do not really need him now, of course they still would like to but what have they to offer Geelong. Probably have to wait till next year, or offer next years first rounder 16-18 ?

He likes punching below his weight, especially if they are not looking.

Good to have him stay then. I hear there's plenty of sheepdogs and plodders winning premierships these days.

That sheepdog gets tagged every single time he runs out onto the park. And yet he still racks up 30+ possessions. It will be interesting to see how Kelly performs with a little more heat on him. He had the luxury of going relatively un-tagged at Geelong with the likes of Selwood, Dangerfield and Ablett in the midfield.

I reckon WCE could find a spot for Kelly, he would obviously only make them stronger.
