Wallabies reveal their jersey for 2019 Rugby World Cup

By Scott Pryde / Expert

Rugby Australia have today announced the jersey which will be worn by the Wallabies at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

On first impression, the jersey looks to be a relatively simple, clean, and plain one, which has been received reasonably well on Wednesday morning by fans.

The strip which will be worn for the sport’s showpiece international tournament is predominantly yellow with no patterns on the main portion of the jersey.

The jersey is then finished with a green collar and end of the sleeve, while the Wallabies logo is also positioned on the left shoulder, and the Rugby World Cup logo on the right shoulder.

Further to that, the coat of arms, manufacturer and Rugby World Cup logos are all displayed across the chest of the shirt.

The yellow playing shirt is complemented by green shorts with a yellow trim and logo, while the socks are also predominantly yellow with a green finish.

The jersey being used for the Cup is in some ways similar to the strip worn by the Australian outfit in 2015 without some dark green from the right shoulder and replaces the white collar with green.

The World Cup will get underway on Friday, September 20 as Japan play Russia in the opening match. The Wallabies will kick-off their campaign in an attempt to go one step better than four years ago in England when they take on Fiji on Saturday, September 21 at the Sapporo Dome.

Australia’s path through the tournament will then see them play Wales, Uruguay and Georgia across the remainder of the group stage.

Roarers, what’s your verdict on the new jersey?

The jersey looks ok but Phipps and Hanigan are featured in it.

I am the first to jump on the tah bashing bandwagon, but it may pay to consider that if you are doing a launch in Sydney, it is easier to use local "talent". Also Ned is probably the "Prettiest" of the forwards. You don't want Mingers in your photo shoot.

The Indigenous design is awesome. But apparently the white fellas, & chicks, running the game, & the marketing, & the merchandising, must find it incapable within themselves to acknowledge they don't have anything to match the Indigenous design.

It seems Phipps and Hannigan are already a lock in. I don't hold out much hope for the selection panel.

Because if you can't even get the deck furniture right what hope have you to run the rest of the ship? The jersey is the wrong #$%$# colour, and looks like it should be worn by a rower with his nuts hanging out.

You like the shade of YELLOW? It's the wrong colour! Or as Bill would say "Canary Yellow indeed? That's Aussie Gold my friend!" Except this jersey is tragically canary yellow. RA you had one job!

Geez why so canary yellow ffs? I know wattle is yellow but even the ref knows it's gold (with tongue in cheek). If the refs says we are the gold team we should bloody well be wearing a gold jersey. Can't anyone make Gold colour? Like darker and more orange? As to the socks, they are a joke and will be deliberately not pulled up because they look so crap. Which is the only thing saying they're not playing soccer.

Hmmm dunno Machooka, Ned’s half North Shore half Neanderthal, unfortunately. But he does seem like a nice boy, for a half-North Shore kid ;)

i wish they would have put cooper, genia and jones in the foto instead of foley, hannigan and phipps. would have given nobody here something to have a wh inge about. it is a jersey. it is not the team. personally am a fan of the late 80's to late 90's jersey (minus the reebok disaster) but that just shows my age and rose coloured glasses. never bought a rugby jersey in my life and would never wear a rugby jersey i have played in ever unless it was in said game playing. so i am not their target audience for shelling the cash on the marketing stuff. good luck to the wallabies in the wc, the jersey is neither here nor there in relation to performance is my 2 cents.
