Curtis Scott charged with assaulting a police officer

Canberra NRL recruit Curtis Scott is facing charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest following an incident in Sydney.

The NRL’s off-season woes have worsened with Canberra recruit Curtis Scott allegedly kicking and punching a police officer while being arrested.

Scott is facing two charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest following an incident in Sydney during Australia Day celebrations.

Police say they were called to Moore Park in the early hours of Monday after reports a man was acting erratically.

“The 22-year-old man allegedly became aggressive and kicked and punched one of the officers,” NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.

“The man was tasered and arrested.”

Scott is also facing charges of behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place, behaving in an indecent manner and remaining on trust lands after being requested to leave.

The former Melbourne centre was granted conditional bail and will appear in the Downing Centre court on February 20.

The Raiders released statement on Sunday afternoon saying they had been made aware of an incident involving Scott and would work with the NRL integrity unit to investigate it.

Scott joined the Raiders from Melbourne on a four-year deal in November, immediately clouding the long-term future of centre Joey Leilua.

Last week, Scott, a Cronulla Sharks junior, opened up on staying away from what he described as the “rat race” and “fishbowl” life in the harbour city.

“I would have had too many distractions in Sydney and it just would have been a little bit too full on,” he told Fox Sports.

“It would have been easier for me to go out and end up … not in trouble but just not take footy as serious as I did when I moved away and focused on it.

“I had to pick if I wanted to go down the wrong road or the right road and that’s why I originally went to Melbourne – to get the best out of myself and my football.

“And it’s the same with the opportunity to go to Canberra.

“I’m older now and make better decisions but I also just think it’s the best place for me to get the most out of my football.”

The incident comes one day after Brisbane informed the NRL integrity unit about an offence involving forward Joe Ofahengaue.

News Corp reported Ofahengaue was charged with being in control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

This is why the NRL should get more TV money than AFL. Not only does it have 26 rounds?, State of origin and Internationals (well sort of) , in the once dormant football summer months it has the long running and popular "Judge Tony" TV series where Tony Greenberg decides on the fate of the latest NRL player caught by the law so NRL becomes a 12 month a year footy drama. It is never out of the headlines and should be rewarded even if it means sponsors , fans and parents are turned off the game. NRL - Not Real Long! for some players.

Could have been worse, Curtis could have called the police officer gay and told him to repent or else.....then Curtis would be banned for life from playing the code and any other.....

They would stop reporting on things like this if nobody read and commented on it ND, it's as simple as that.

If it was "Freddy Jones" he'd be running about the paddock with a head like a Manly hooker (https://tinyurl.com/Fred-Jones) playing in the World Cup, belting Cliff Watson and loving it and being belted by Charlie Renilson and loving that too!

The NRL scandal machine just keeps on producing year after year?!?! Wonder what hypocritical punishment or lack-there-of, will be meted out in this instance?

Clubs are in charge of players education as they grow from teenagers to men. To help them make the most of themselves on the field, and to guide them off field, ensuring that they prepare themselves for life afterwards. I'm proud of what Richmond have done. Sort out a players issues, freeing them from making poor decisions. The Storm appear the same way. People make good and poor decisions on field and off field. Make more good decisions a and you succeed. Players are high profile, whether they like it or not. You want to set yourself up for life as a spokesperson. You can prolong your career if you keep making good decisions. The team doesn't need loose cannons as you can't trust them.

Missing the point, ND. It's more the fact he's a serial offender. It's also the fact 5 days ago he said he changed his ways. He brings the indignation on himself

Lets see if you're so keen to endorse Scotts actions if he attacks someone again this season with a funny green coloured jumper on Geoff. Losing a GF because someone is too immature to deal with a bit of lip wouldn't be so much fun I'd say.

Thanks for filling me in Kramer - anyone whose watched a few Manly games knows how Dylan Walker operates - or maybe you've missed it. I can think of at least 3 or 4 games against the Raiders where he's managed to get under their skin. And a lot of the time the tactic worked as the Raiders players got sucked in by his tactics. But I can't say I was surprised to see an opposition player react the way Curtis Scott did.

Hey Mr Storm Trooper, Curtis Scott has lots and lots of form....why do you think Melbourne let him go early? Ricky Stuart simply didn't do proper due diligence on his new acquisition.

“Have to cop one at some stage”. Mate, you’re a spectator. stop pretending you know what goes on. You don’t know what is being said to walker or what he says to others to justify a punch in the head. Reality calling Geoff! You. Are. A. Spectator. Nothing more big guy!

Permit me to reply as "an old person". Back then if there was a disagreement it would be sorted out with fisticuffs then the combatants would dust themselves off. Yes there used to be "sinking the slipper in however that was deemed to be cowardly. Nowadays it is common for stabbings, king hits & glassings. In all honesty you felt quite safe in the streets of Sydney during daylight however if you ventured down a Kings Cross laneway after dark perhaps not. Don't recall home invasions back then. I acknowledge us Baby Boomers are probably biased when we compare eras e.g. the music was better back then etc.however as far your "crime statistics" are concerned let me add that back then you could go out & leave your house unlocked & drive to the shop & leave the engine running while you race into the shop. Try doing that today!

Mick Ennis did very well to keep his melon intact after a long career of repeatedly getting up the nose of opposition players and supporters. Funnily enough Ennis comes across as a cheeky bugger with a bit of a sense of humour (e.g. mimicking the Viking clap in Canberra which had Raiders supporters frothing at the mouth) but I'm not sure I could say the same for Dylan Walker.

Bummer. There I was hoping you and 40/20 could bring over a nice bottle of shiraz and we could talk about what a great bloke Dylan Walker is. The conversation might be over pretty quickly though.

"Less violence" back then? Have you even had a passing look at violent crime statistics? It is at an all time low. The hysteria by old people who should know better, on the other hand....
