Reports: Capewell joining Broncos in 2022

By The Roar / Editor

Nine’s Wide World of Sports has reported overnight that Penrith and Queensland star Kurt Capewell could be on his way to Brisbane next season.

According to the report, Capewell has agreed in principle to a three-year deal that would commence next season and tie him to the Broncos until the end of 2024.

Capewell, who turns 28 in July, made 64 appearances for Cronulla between 2016 and 2019, before joining the Panthers ahead of the 2020 season.

He’s played 20 games for the club so far, while also making four appearances for Queensland since last season in the unusual position of centre.

Neither club, nor Capewell, have made an official statement on the reports.

All I see is Ikin announcing signing player before they have signed. Does not fill me with confidence at all.

I see that the reporter in the courier mail said that the Broncos initially offered him $300,000 but I have it on good authority that the offer was only $200,000, he's on more than those 2 figures at the Panthers, now Ikin has turned up they might go higher than what he's on at the panthers but we will see if Ikin can sweet talk him over the insult of their first offer.

Kurt has denied any signing but all I wanted to say is if PANTHERS lose him and Kikau they are are gone!!!!!!!!!! where has all the money gone from departing players like Burton and Naden. Get rid of the dud and trouble maker Tyrone May and retain players like Kurt and Kenny, Kikau they can win premiership but May we have seen him in last year GF and origin time this year when Nathan was missing...……...hopeless my daughter van play better than Tyrone MAY.

I hear Ben Ikin's big on Spreadsheets,if they can throw some Algirythems in there somewhere, the Broncs problems will be fixed in no time.I guess Wayne fluncked the SSheets test and missed the job

Dunno about another hooker but a Segs-type impact utility would be great. I reckon Cobbo will inherit the FB role.

Must get another hooker and fullback . Decent centre or another ball playing forward would be nice. But going to take time and must start showing results to attract players if possible

If he is from Qld and wants to return home makes sense.

I was referring to their recruitment/retention plan in general rather than Capewell in particular

A supremely versatile state rep, potentially premiership player doesn't make sense?

A seriously good signing if it comes to fruition. He couldn't be a better example of a 1%er and they'll get him for less than some of the current young roter is earning. Talent isn't an issue for the Broncos but the attitude is a huge one. Capewell has both in spades.

I guess he must be getting a fair whack from the Broncos, to move from the short price favourite to win the premiership to one of the short price favorites to win the wooden spoon.

It's hard to know what to make of the Broncos' recruitment plan. Hopefully there's some names on a white board somewhere that makes some sense

Good news but the Broncos are still looking for a spine (in more ways than one).
