Panthers premiership winner Paul Momirovski is returning to the Sydney Roosters.
The Roar can reveal the Penrith ace is on the verge of inking a three-year deal which should be finalised this week.
Having made his NRL debut for the Tricolours back in 2018, the 25-year-old returns with 38 games to his name and a grand final win under his belt.
It’s a timely signing for the club with the retirement of the Morris twins, Josh and Brett, while fringe outside back Dale Copley has also hung up the boots.
Momirovski was recently granted permission to find a new home for 2022 with the Panthers feeling the salary cap pinch as they fight to keep the bulk of their roster together beyond next season.
With the Roosters eager to reunite with Momirovski, the club could not deny him the chance to secure his longterm future.
What the move also does is gives the Roosters another goal kicker.
Adam Keighran is sharp with the boot but no certainty to make the starting 13, while Siosiua Taukeiaho and Sam Walker also both kicked last year but the centre provides another option.
He also provides experience, having played in many systems and under several coaches over the past five years.
The 25-year-old made two appearances for the Roosters in 2018, scoring two tries before joining Wests Tigers where he kicked 21 goals during his time.
He joined Melbourne on loan in 2020 before moving to the Panthers where his form was so good it resulted in Stephen Crichton being moved to the wing.
Having played 19 games this season, Momirovski had no shortage of suitors lining up for his signature but the allure of returning to where it first started was too good to turn down.
The centre became an unsung hero for the Penrith right edge, adding some real steel to their defence.
Still young, the Prime Minister’s XIII representative also offers plenty of flair in attack. With Momorovski exiting Penrith, the Panthers will turn their attention to locking up the likes of fullback Dylan Edwards.
He, Api Koroisau and Viliame Kikau hit the open market as of November 1.
Despite releasing Momirovski and losing Brent Naden and Matt Burton to Canterbury, the Panthers won’t be left short in the backline.
Promising 19-year-old local Izack Tago is waiting in the wings for his opportunity to slot into the centres.
He’s contracted until 2023, as is Crichton, Charlie Staines and Brian To’o.

Plus he’s a Souths junior – or at least his grandparents ate a kebab in Erskineville, so he must be. Papi won’t be able to resist this one.

No ! The Chooks offered him more money and a 3 year deal. Moving each year has worked out well for him previously.

Yep ! Can't but be a whisker away from delivering on that debut promise of Round 24 of the 2013 season? :silly:

Is he concerned maybe about the some of the antics of his teammates during the season and post the GF and how the clubs management managed those indiscretions or didn’t manage ? Great pick up for the chooks going forward after a tough 2021

Ah, sad he's leaving. Had the best year of his career, brilliant defensive centre, sort of player every team needs.

Good move by East's. He's a far better player than Keighran and his stints with Melbourne and Penrith have matured him .

This bloke is kissed on the D. Tigers do the Storm swap - Premiership ( for BJ & Jet  ). Tigers pass again onto Penrith - Premiership. Now a very astute buy from the Chooks. How many Tigers have played 3x longer and never in Sept?

Tough to replace Morris but this is still a very good pickup for the Roosters.
