The 2023 Trade Period has already seen plenty of action in the first three days, and Day 4 promises to be no different. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).
Five players switched hands on the third day alone as things ramped up far earlier than usual.
Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams, two of the trade period’s biggest moves, joined Sydney in exchange for a trio of picks handed to Melbourne and Collingwood respectively; North Melbourne, too, bolstered their ranks with the addition of Dylan Stephens from the Swans and Zac Fisher from Carlton.
Chris Burgess also headed from Gold Coast to Adelaide as the Suns built up a considerable arsenal of draft picks; now armed with 23, 26, 27, 31, 35, 37, 61, 65, 70 and 73 in this year’s draft, they are well placed to match early bids on Academy guns Jed Walter, Ethan Read, Jake Rogers and Will Graham.
Also of interest is a looming standoff between Essendon and St Kilda; with only two days left in the free agency period, the Bombers still haven’t lodged a bid for Jade Gresham, presumably due to the Saints’ stated intent to match a bid that doesn’t net them a sufficient compensation pick. The Bombers, too, have made clear their unwillingness to trade for Gresham should that be required to get a deal done.

The quote above says 'I think we're probably going to lodge...'. Hardly an iron clad guarantee, was it? And today it was lodged first thing, with each party getting what they wanted. What's one more night to iron out the final details of the deal? The Bombers have heaps of cap space because the unfortunate reality is that they don't have many gun players. Merrett is on good coin but I think he's well ahead of the next few.

i'd even swap him for Sam reid new coach and old leaders gone will make him or break him. his good and bad will both be amplified in the next two seasons. personally, and i've been this way since about rd8 21, is we should go real hard for a rebuild. which means keeping more solid leader types like Baker, and cashing in at the right time on more streaky types like Bolton. probably Balta, too. great highlights reel. shocking lowlights reel. in the current climate Bolton is surely worth top 10 at least. swap pick 8 and our second rounder for two picks in the low teens and we can jag two young talents in a quality year, bookending the TarantoGrasshopper trade year with two bountiful youth trades either side?

Clearly you don’t understand how DFA works. Firstly Essendon lodge contract details which, despite their constant utterings they have so far failed to do. Then St Kilda make their decision on whether to match.

My opinion is I don't think they want him that much taking Flynn confirmed that I feel. Also we will be crucified by the whole of WA if we do a Tim Kelly type deal so it just won't happen alot more to it than that too. The truth is he won't add much to our team at the point we are at so I hope we avoid him like the plague no offence to Tim and his footy still

Not jesting, but you’re right … if WC are prepared to take the risk of waiting another year then he’ll be cheaper. But Essendon waited a year and Dunkley changed his mind and went to Brisbane. So if WC want him, they should do a deal now while they have the pick that would get it done. English is about to become the best ruck in the comp for the next 5-6 years.

Well he’s a WA lad and WC need a quality ruckman, and he is the AA Ruckman who is still young and yet to reach his prime. And the bulldogs have tried to extend his contract but so far he has resisted. The pies just won a flag with Mason Cox as theur ruckman, and Sweet is a lot better than him.

I agree with you. He has massive upside, hes big and a rising star, but will he meet potential...its an unknown. 30-40's for me also.
