The 2023 Trade Period has just two days to go, and a series of major deal still remain on the table as time ticks down. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).

Fremantle dominated the start of the second week on the trade table, netting compensation picks for losing Lachie Schultz to Collingwood and Liam Henry to St Kilda – but it was a very different story for two other major players in Hawthorn and Port Adelaide.

The Hawks still need to finalise moves for contracted talls Mabior Chol (Gold Coast) and Jack Gunston (Brisbane), while also receiving the best possible deal from Richmond in exchange for Jacob Koschitzke.

The Power, too, have a number of deals yet to do, the biggest for Esava Ratugolea; a move that now seems more likely than ever to fall apart with both they and Geelong at an impasse over his value. Should that happen, the Power will need to take the defender via the national draft, while any further hold-ups will also impact an impending trade with Essendon for Brandon Zerk-Thatcher in which Xavier Duursma is also involved.

I guess BZT and Port could specify a contract that Essendon wouldn’t match, it might be better for a deal to be done without sacrificing space in Port’s cap.

is it possible sometimes that demanding a pick that you prob won't use is not about strengthening your hand but just weakening your trader's?

I don't disagree, but I think a lot of it is due to the AFL encouraging deals to be dragged out for clicks. You could make the official trade window 3 days and virtually all of the deals would still get done

Looking at what Carlton accepted for Dow, I think they direspected him more than I did lol

Absolutely they do, especially as this draft is deemed shallow. It's entirely possible Essendon won't use more than 2 picks anyway, given the ins and outs on the list to date. They'll save one rookie draft spot, one supplemental spot and possibly one mid-season spot.

i am the least qualified in understanding this, but i think: - points matter when you need points eg for academy and father/son etc - second rounders are elevated in value if you all agree it's a shallow draft ?

Long Bow - you might want to go back and have a look at some of the Ginnivan discussions? A supporter is "a person who approves of and encourages a public figure" A fan (short for fanatic) is "a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal" Massive difference.

Drawing a long bow? I was explicitly accused of threatening Ginnivan's mental health simply by saying exactly what you said. "So fans are morons and supporters are not? Adam Goodes says hi." You think the people booing Goodes were supporters? Fan is short for fanatic - "a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal" A supporter is "a person who approves of and encourages a public figure" Massive difference.

They take the taps in the forward lines and are also thinking about that duel responsibilty in play and positioning. Ports Lade could kick them from anywhere

It actually shows how bad the officiating is. 4 on the field so OK pay it by mistake. Then the player keeps doing it, you see a replay at the ground then see it in the week review. Then make the same mistake next week. Same with the throwing. Its like the NRL or ARU have a secret side in the comp

Oh the irony if Henry left Pies for Geelong, and Pies contend while Geelong wallow. Shades of Buckley....

The thing about that though is the picks will move up as a result of potentially six matched bids in the first round

I guess a difference is that Essendon would lose a pick if they just gave up 52, and Port would lose two picks. Port to give picks 25 and 35 for Ratugolea with a pick back?

And the GWS match. I don’t think it’s a conspiracy. It’s not that furtive. It’s policy.
