The Brisbane Lions face Collingwood at the Gabba in what looms as an acid test of their credentials. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm (AEST).

Off the back of a disappointing loss to the Bulldogs in Round 3, the Lions welcome competition heavyweights Collingwood to their home ground, with a massive four points on offer.

Thus far in 2023, it has been a little hit and miss for the Lions, with two poor losses sandwiching the impressive win they claimed against Melbourne in week two. It makes the form of the Queenslanders tough to gauge and the inconsistency they have shown thus far is surely to be tested against what looks to be the best team in the AFL right now.

Collingwood are three from three, having knocked off the Tigers, Cats and Power, with everyone in the football community impressed by the quality they have shown. It stands to be a long night for the Lions, unless they are able to recapture the form they showed against the Demons, as the Pies go in search of extending their perfect start to the season.

Team news sees the Lions take some hope from the fact that the Magpies have been hit by injury concerns. Ash Johnson and Daniel McStay will take up the ruck slack with Darcy Cameron unavailable. The Lions have responded by omitting Darcy Fort, believing that Oscar McInerney will be able to achieve dominance in the ruck against the depleted Collingwood group.

Jaxon Prior also comes in for Brisbane, while Daniel Rich continues to be absent from the Lions’ half-back line with an injury that appears to be growing in its severity.

Prediction

Tipping against the Pies after their red hot start to the season does seem foolish and they should have too much explosive scoring power for the Lions tonight. The one hope the home side does have is the injury list that sees some young and inexperienced men forced to take on important roles for the Pies.

Should Chris Fagan manage to inspire a gritty performance like the one we saw in Round 2, the Lions could well be in the match for longer than what most people expect.

Collingwood by 31 points.

He seems to forget the ruthless gaslighting, bulling and plain meanness to Henry. And first game of the season, how did the Collingwood fans respond? I saw one comment on Daicos. He dived. It was true and deserving of comment.

No that’s just in your mind. Collingwoods game is built around a ground. You can argue with someone about the HGA, it doesn’t interest me.

Whale, you must have missed the memo, Pies love is permeating the universe at the moment. Not sure how long those planets will be aligned though. Honestly the whole stats thing is irrelevant. That's largely his designated role within the team because he is so sublimely skillful. Every other club would do the same with him. Experienced and talented senior players at the elite level are warming the pine whilst this 20 year old kid takes on a senior and pivotal role within the team. And did you watch his 3rd quarter in the middle last night? I couldn't care less if he becomes a superstar or not but he is already a very good player and is only going to get better. He may play a bit for a free but that won't be in his game for long. He is essentially a kid getting constant exposure to the ball in play. You're comments are reasonably rounded but a lot of negative commentary is just from haters/sooks.

Great player, no doubting that Kev. His tendency to 'play' for free kicks won't help his cause though, will it? Also, I believe his stats are over inflated with kick ins and orchestrated one-twos but then again, the Pies want the ball in his hands! No sooking, that's just a typical Pies' supporters response. I don't hate the Pies, but most people do.

Haters just need to hate (or sook). The kid will leave them eating his dust. And he'll have plenty of support around him.

very true tassie, unfortunately i cant see it ever going away for nick and will be something he will have to deal with his whole career, think very hard on him at this early stage of his career as only a very young player, its all out of his control, seems a decent young man from decent family but that doesnt count does it? he does have to work on his contested efforts and im sure he will, will ashcroft a decent young man from decent family as well, also lot of justified hype for him, pretty similar situation for him to nick at start of his career, only thing i can see at this point is ashcroft much better at the contest, so i wonder what the problem is,,,???????????? i think we both know????

Dying thread and probably no one sees this but can everyone stop with the hate against Nick Daicos? The kid is 20 years old I doubt will get so much as a parking ticket in his life, dealt with the pressure of being a number 1 draft hope from a son of a gun to a club with no coach and in a period of turmoil to producing what many experts are saying was the best season ever from a first year player ever. He has then grew from that into his team moulding a game plan around his obvious talents which has subsequently led his team to premiership favourites and himself to a Brownlow contender in his second year of footy which is supposed to be the hardest for an afl player? Why the hell could there be any hate? What a miserable life some people must lead if they can’t see the enjoyment from that in the game they are supposed to love

Not sure what this comment implies to? If it is what I think it is which premiership team won solely on unfair home town advantage?

There'll be fluctuations through the season Tassie but reckon we should be primed for the finals.

Fair enough but I would so much rather have a crack and play footy as it’s meant to be played and back your own to outscore the other team, it’s bloody exciting and teams are emulating it for a reason

Oh yeah it’s in subbed but they pretty frequently drop into English. Like the main guy from Vincenzo and Descendants of the Sun Song Jong Ki can now speak English fluently after marrying an English lady.

I’m a little bit deaf so when they drop into English it’s real hard to hear unless they’re fluent or very good at learning their lines phonetically. But I agree I find the story telling to be the most interesting part. I’ve been someone that watches anime quiet a bit but I’ve been surprised by my tolerance for Korean dramas but honestly I find the egregious product placement to have its own kind of quirky charm

I can't watch them as much as l want to, live in a very rural setting and only have satellite internet which is very expensive so have to pick and choose. Storytelling is the best part.
