A spot in the grand final is up for grabs as the Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats play in a preliminary final at The Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:40pm (AEDT).

Brisbane finally broke their long hoodoo against Richmond in their qualifying final two weeks ago, their first win in a final since 2009. After a solid follow-up to last year’s breakout season, the second-placed Lions are playing in their first preliminary final since 2004 – a match in which they defeated the Cats – as they look to make their first grand final since their streak of four in a row came to an end that year.

Geelong, who were downed by Port Adelaide in the qualifying finals, got back to their very best with a scarcely believable demolition of Collingwood last week. Thought to be in danger of a straight-sets exit, the Cats made a mockery of their doomsayers and gave Collingwood a shellacking nobody saw coming. However, the preliminary final hurdle has proven impossible to overcome – they’re looking to win their first since 2011 and end a run of four failures.

The Cats claimed a 22-point win when these met at the SCG earlier this year, giving them ten wins from their last 11 matches against the Lions. Neither of these sides has lost at The Gabba in 2020.

Oh dear, my hopes of a Port v Brisbane GF dashed. Silly me to forget that it is, after all, Victorian Football.

I tend to agree. Throw in blokes just not up to it, like Robinson & McStay, and their needs are aplenty.

It won't.

Are you kidding? The margin could easily have been 80 points.

Henderson has another year left in him, I reckon Taylor, Gaz, Joel Selwood, Jack Stevens and josh Jenkins.

Lions players, or some of them, got ahead of themselves, others overwhelmed. Worth remembering they were spooners in 2017 - this has been an abrupt ladder rise. In retrospect it is clear they are not and should not have been expected to be ready to do it. The enthisiasm was largely based on circumstances of home games, even that can't compensate for naivete.

Both home preliminary finalists were home preliminary finalists because everything was out of whack.

cant see either team being too worried about some taunt, be surprised if either coach bothers.

both teams very different from last time so has no bearing on the granny ... hope we can bring our best, gunna be a very tough game u would imagine with two battle hardened teams ... am a bit nervous with danger, thought he was just a bit off his usually elite standard tonight, cant see that happening 2 weeks in a row too often ...... arguably the best 2 players in the comp, danger & dusty (watch this space ..), two contrasting styles, control v chaos ... hopefully a cracker with the tiges getting up ...long live chaos

Kinda ironic, the 2 favourites heading into the Preliminary finals lost! Just a continuing crazy COVID season.

Well at least you’re going for the Tigers Brian! Personally I think an all Victorian GF is great, although tis a dam shame it can’t be at the MCG!

Congratulations cats! Gotta lot of respect for them (kinda my 2nd team) and would be barracking for ya in the GF if my tigers weren’t playing! Hopefully will be a cracking contest between the undisputed 2 best Victorian teams all season. Good luck to both teams! Will be hoping my tigers can go back to back though

Yes. But all both teams can give is a full on crack. Our last contest was one of our worst games for the year but still only four goals. I think our score or Tigers restriction of will be the diff.

I'll get their deets sorted. I've gotta work tomorrow, I'll see if l can get something done by Monday night. Mars Rx in Aries could be a big impact on Tiges.

That will be interesting. I sent a response through but it didn’t load up, given that Mercury is in retrograde. Geelong is Aquarius while Richmond is Aries.
