The Melbourne Demons desperately need a win to keep their finals hopes alive, but standing in their way are the tenacious Fremantle Dockers. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:10pm (AEST).

Seemingly flying high on their way to a surprising return to the finals, Melbourne dropped the ball big time last week in a shocking upset loss to the Sydney Swans. The Demons looked off the pace and disinterested for large stretches and then ruined a late charge with woeful goalkicking and miserable defensive errors.

The Dockers, on the other hand, have just started to fall away over the last fortnight after what’s been an otherwise encouraging 2020 campaign. They were right with the Tigers at three-quarter time in their last match, but got rolled in the last quarter to lose by 27. They’ll be hoping to get another win on the board before the season’s out.

Melbourne have won their last two matches against Freo and three of their last four, but had lost seven in a row by an average of 66 points prior to that.

You can see why JL wants Walters up forward. What was obvious last night was the lack of finish up froward, which Walters provided. He’s More than handy in the midfield but we’re looking pretty good in that department, unlike our forward line.

I think you'll find Liam has a bit more experience on this website than the 4 of you.

I've never seen a season like it? Maybe to much is being left to the players themselves, all this positive reinforcement and no negative feedback nowadays?

Will not be surprised in the slightest to find ourselves a few goals down at half time against the Suns GGG. If so, the players will fumble and stumble due to the pressure of season over and we will need a miracle to get the win. The key must be to get a fast start and take the scoreboard pressure off as we don't respond well when behind...

Nah some of the set shots missed were awful, Tabs missed two easy ones, Lobb has no confidence, even Walters missed one he should have kicked. Freo should of had 5 or 6 at Half time had they kicked a bit straighter, yes there was a lot of rain, but professional footballers should still be converting from 30m out directly in front.

Or better still we miraculously find some form and beat them on merit. Let’s not get too far ahead however. Gold coast first…..

To be fair, the conditions were pretty tough - especially in the first quarter. The kicking for goal was actually worse in the Bulldogs vs Eagles game where several easy shots were missed and the weather was fine.

im hoping GGG that Port have nothing to gain from the last game of the year....that is, they finish 1 or 2 regardless...they might rest players or at least be not very invested in the game

It was a terrific game of footy for those conditions. Fyfe and Walters' one-handed pick ups, Cerra's goal, Darcy's bodywork and tackling against the Gawnstar...the Freo boys were kicking at almost 80% efficiency in that rain. Torrential rain will not allow high marks and high scores but that was gripping wet weather footy. That was not light rain. The footy jumpers were see-through by the end of the first quarter.

4.11 to 6.9 What's going on with goal kicking this year? It's shocking.

Unfortunately Pete GWS, dogs and Stk are the bigger threats to us playing finals. Unless we beat both port and gc, my ladder predictor has us missing the 8. Wce hurt us yet again, this time by losing to the dogs :crying:

A bit late to the party. A fantastic win. Sure still a work in progress especially in the front half but the improvement and growth week on week is obvious to see. A normal 22 round season and well who knows. Loving it.

No lack of effort from WC in their past 3 hub games. It’s a lack of best 22 due to lots of injuries and some expected fatigue from their compressed schedule. The Dogs came off a bye. WC have lost 2 but not from lack of effort.

Mate don't bother replying to that person, they aren't worth it. Pretty much every regular commenter I have seen has discussed this person's comments and targeting of you at some point, we know what is going on. You don't have to dignify the sniping comments with a reply. And enjoy the win, low quality wins are still better than honourable losses

The one good game Cox has played at AFL level... I mean it's a helluva game to hang your hat on, but the chances of him repeating that? Very low.
