Like I said Gallen hasn't beaten any boxers of note. Even though he's in the early stages of his career he's not a spring chicken & will only get slower. As I said he's OK for an amateur but to step up against a real boxer he would not last a second. There are boxers in this world that even at 40 plus would destroy Gallen in an instant. I'm not bagging the guy but when I read & listened to the story of how he'd like to fight Mike Tyson & his thoughts that he'd do OK just made me roll my eyes & laugh. I laugh every time people suggest he's a good boxer. Sorry but compared to fighters / boxers in the same category as he is that would demolish him Gallen is a nobody.

I was enjoying the other bloke. He was pumping up the fighter intros like nothing else.

Look, I am not a fan of Gal at all, but he is only in the early stages of his career, so of course he is fighting other "average" boxers. Tim Tszyu is 17 fights in and only now in moving towards serious contention for a title fight. We seem to expect that footballers who go to boxing should be fighting top class guys straight away, which is unfair. As for his chin, Hunt landed plenty of heavy shots on him and he stayed on his feet, so I am not sure fighting a "real boxer" as you say will necessarily prove he has a glass chin. Would likely put some losses on his record, but I think he has proven he has a good chin.

He was a good footballer but until Gallen fights a real boxer his record means nothing. Mike Tyson at 54 would destroy Gallen within the first few seconds. In fact any real boxer would make Gallen look like the amateur he is & yes his jaw would be glass.......

It was billed as a dual main event card.

Why was the ring announcer an American? Why was he hell bent on using American terminology in his interviews? It felt forced and uncomfortable. American hype in a very Aussie setting just seemed strange.

Huni is a fair dinkum fighter. Forget any links to Horn, they are brittle and not heavily influential. He has come along in maturity in and out of the ring over the last 6 months. He has a plan, he has support and he has fast, heavy hands. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does in the next 12 months.

Gallen is not without skill as a boxer. He’s been trying pretty seriously since 2013, which is plenty of time to get to a semi professional level, which is all he claims to be. He might not be close to being a serious contender for any of the top titles, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

His handicap is being based in Australia, where unfortunately there is no serious competition at heavyweight.

Phil,if Gal should fight Huni it would mean fighting 3 min rounds and probably 10 rounds,no 6 round 2 minute exhibition. He's a big unit, only 21 yrs old and he can punch. I'll be surprised if it happens. But hey, the Australian Heavyweight Title is the prize.

Andrew, I have been reading about Justis Huni and he is looking the goods. He has an amateur background which is necessary to be a successful pro and took the Aus title by KO in his pro debut followed by a KO win in his second bout although his opponent was about as slim and streamlined as that palooka Gallen fought. His handicap could be his manager, the same bloke who handles Jeff Horn, a manager who has no idea of welfare for his charges.

Good luck to Gal. As a commentator I loathe him. As an ex NRL player doing amateur boxing he is going good.

Footballers should stick to football and leave boxing to real fighters. Quite a few years ago on the old ch9 footy show when Fatty, Matt Johns and Paul Harrogon were panelists, Jeff Fenech brought a group of his amateurs onto the show to promote an event. For a laugh Fatty had a "spar" with one as did Matt Johns, clowning around acting like a boxer. All good fun until Harrogon had his turn. He was set to spar with a bloke about equal height but considerably lighter. Unlike his two mates the Chief decided to get serious and test his skill. Afterall he had a few blow ins with Marty Bella in SOO who he did not get the better of in handbags at 10 paces, so he fancied his chances against this amateur. The Chief was knocked out cold, flat out on the canvas needing medical attention. Jeff Fenech commented afterwards that boxers have a different skill set to footballers and how right he was.

I love the Gal. Especially when he's rubbishing Qld and Queenslanders. :stoked:

Yeah, but in 10 years time you'll remember this fight Gallen won't. He won last night, but lost precious remaining brain cells.

Trouble is 99% of pub fights don't last 90 seconds. I haven't seen the fight but I'd imagined gal only had one chance and that was to stick to hunt like glue.

Hunt should consider training in the gym rather than the pie shop next fight

“Congratulations @paulgallen13 well deserved win. U have my respect,” Hunt wrote. “Part time fighter beat my ass but I had so much fun tonight getting back into the ring.” Hunt silences them quickly.

Not necessarily. Hard and Clean punches count for more than punches that don’t land flush. Scoring is meant to reflect dominance, and Hunt landed punches that nearly ended the fight. Gallen never looked like getting a knockout. He might have landed more punches, but few if any of them were particularly telling. Gallen deserved the win on the basis of his ring generalship - he clearly had a plan to get in and cramp Hunt and it largely worked. He dictated how the fight went.
