The white ball leg of the Australian summer begins with as Australia and the West Indies face each other in the first ODI in Melbourne. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 2:30pm (AEDT).
Australia still seem to be suffering from a post-World Cup hangover following a Test summer where they never quite played their best cricket, ultimately leading to a shock loss at the Gabba.
With fresh faces in the ODI squad and a new captain, the Aussies are hoping to ignite some spirited performances and positive results.
The West Indies’ limited-overs teams have found some belief after a horror 2023 with Darren Sammy at the helm; they will be looking towards opener Alick Athanaze and captain Shai Hope to score the bulk of the runs.
The tourists bowling attack looks strong, with Gudakesh Motie and Hayden Walsh set to pair as spin twins and strangle the Aussies. Another youngster to watch out for is 21-year old bowling all-rounder Matthew Forde, who took three wickets in his lone ODI and is coming off good form from the Bangladesh Premier League.
Prediction
Both teams are experimenting in this ODI series with Australia looking towards the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, while the Windies are building towards the 2027 World Cup.
That makes this an interesting match as inexperienced players from both teams look to make their mark and push for a long-term spot in the ODI team.
I hate going against the six-time World Cup champions, but the Darren Sammy fanboy in me is backing Shai Hope to lead the Windies to a victory in a final over classic.

Can we call a truce Jeff? I was only annoyed you didn’t get my most recent attempts at humour. I’ll try and reduce my late night sarcasm….which can be alcohol related. We all love cricket here…and I’m an average player at best!

If I recall the conversation you’re referring to correctly, someone made a shot across the bows first before their mental health was questioned. Then again, timestamps on comments can be confusing… as can confusing people with agendas against Green, with those who simply don’t have the blind faith of some that he is the second coming. For the record I’m sure Green will go on to have an excellent career and wish him well, as I wish most players.

Yeah mrl. You are right. Every time someone earns an achievement, or they say farewell after a good career of doing what they do, I just jump straight on here and denigrate them. And I do it as quickly as possible. Does that remind you of someone, mrl? Yes, my life is just so sad. Hey, out of curiosity, what is it about you that makes you a miserable poster about others achievements? That sees you need to put down every single achievement of others - and do so within just a matter of hours. Is it your own high-flying life achievements that leave you in such disdain of others that have actually - well - achieved something? - PS: Try all you like, but you're track record on this site is known to most. You don't get to just wipe your comments history away via one post. Just so you know

Imagine! School term and heat! I'm still working my way through the articles about the combined 8,000 that turned up to Days 3 and 4 on the public holiday/school holiday/ long weekend of the Gabba Test. I thought the never-ending articles and comments about Perth crowds during school term on a weekday were something, but the non-stop reporting on here re the Brisbane Test crowds has left me with a lot to consume. Thank goodness for the balance in reporting/commentary. Otherwise one may think there was just pure bias (bile) from many.
