Been offline with a family health issue for a bit, not hiding under the doona because the two bats I bagged were the only run getters in a dismal effort. My comments didn’t age well there but have to say Smith could have protected the tail when he worked out Joseph was bowling up a storm.

Well smith was huge yesterday the problem lies with head and green. Id personally bring in a younger opener like renshaw for New Zealand I’d have smith at one and drop Marnus down the order . Green to be omitted for me . Head and marsh don’t appear to work in the same side for me at present . Green head and Marnus on a home deck should do more . Renshaw and bancroft are next in line for sure

Yes, I shouldn’t be surprised that you don’t have the wit to be embarrassed by your silliness. Lesson learned!

Even if the test team was a development squad, which it most certainly is not, Green is not playing his first test you imbcebile, he is playing his 27th. If there was a period in which he was there to learn it is well and truly over.

You keep trying this, 'everybody is embarrassed when they expose me' thing. It doesn't work. You say dumb stuff.

Yeah, his averages is less than Matt Renshaw’s now, and he has never averaged more than Handscomb, but if he gets out first ball tomorrow afternoon he will have done just enough to earn himself another 25 or so tests to find his feet.

Even if tests were for learning, he has played 25 of them. If he had an apprenticeship it is over. In Australia against the weaker touring teams, test level is no harder than the Shield. Harris and Renshaw both hit centuries against the Pakistan test attack this summer. They both looked comfortable against the West Indies test attack last summer. Most of the Australian top six have better test averages than their Shield averages. Also, every other player is expected to perform the second they walk into the test team. Boland was dropped in England after one poor match. Handscomb was dropped after one poor match in India. Renshaw was dropped in India after two poor matches. Harris and Bancroft were dropped after two poor matches the last time they played. Green is batting at four and averaging less than 30 after 25 matches. He is the only person Australian cricket for whom the test team is a space for failure and development.

Not too many players with an average north of 50 get dropped. He did score three half centuries against Palistsn

You thought Green looked nervous in the first innings Tim?

So, a Shield player should have already learned to play at the Test level, before they've played at the Test level? I guess that would make sense if one was to equate the level of Shield with Test cricket?

He's playing the innings of his life. England 126 in front, 4 wickets in hand. Rorke's Drift, here we come.

Great to watch a game where both sides can still win. The Windies have done well in this match and may have won more sessions than the Aussies. But given how good Steve Smith looks I think you'd have money on the Aussies.
