Yeah but that's for test cricket, which should be done a series by series basis. However, as you note yourself, ODIs are about winning world cups and the next one isn't for three years, so you're not picking a 35 year old to debut for a tournament that is three years away.

He's probably too old given the next WC is a long way off or may never happen. Remember that Chris Rogers was 35 when selected in 2013.

He's 35, surely we're not going to select a 35 year old... I feel bad he's never been given a go, but his time is well past.

Yep I have been there many times. Looked a bit out of place in the cake tin in a Force jersey!

I love watching cricket at Optus (plenty of soul)...but yeh, the WACA was even better.

Good to see Cummins remembering that he could bowl. 3 over spells are way too short. Fresh on a new morning...let the man bowl.

Jim Maxwell has been the ABC's primary commentator since Glenn Mitchell quit about 15 years ago. He was commentating for about 25 years before that. One thing is clear over that time; he has no idea about cricket. His only handle on the game is that he knows the name of some NSW players.

His FC career went down after 2019/20 season. Hathurasingha was the former NSW and Sydney Thunder batting coach between 2020 June to 2023 January. Currently coach of Bangladesh. Unsurprisingly, NSW and Thunder were rubbish with the bat (32 all out against Tasmania and 15 all out vs Strikers). Literally no player improved as a batter when he was batting coach. And yet Phil Jacques was given the sack first before Hathurasingha jetted off to Bangladesh where he's on a power trip ruining Bangladesh cricket

WACA was the best cricket ground in Australia as long as the weather wasn’t 40 degrees. Optus is a soulless place for cricket

Watching yesterday’s highlights. People suggesting Smith’s eye is gone need to watch the two catches he took. Remarkable

Hughes has been outstanding for NSW. The opposite to pretty much all the rest. Who is Hathurasingha?

Hopefully he's in contention for the ODI team, his record is amazing!

Jim Maxwell tearing strips off NZ on ABC radio. They had a few poor sessions but I think he’s being a bit harsh. Ps I love Test cricket!

The Australian Team rolls on, even if there remain genuine questions about their batting. Since Cummins took over the test side, the away record currently reads (W-L-D): 1. Pakistan 1-0-2 2. Sri Lanka 1-1-0 3. India 1-2-1 4. England 2-2-1 5. New Zealand 1-0-0 So that's 6-5-4 with one series win, two drawn and one loss, with the only options in this one being another draw or a win now. Not bad at all really. It's a shame this team isn't playing overseas again until next year and then it's only another two test series in Sri Lanka, as you'd reckon most of the team will be gone after the WTC final in June 2025 (certainly Khawaja will by gone by then at the latest and I reckon Smith too, with Starc and Hazlewood also like gone).
