Round five of NRL’s Super Saturday ends with the Brisbane Broncos hosting the Wests Tigers at Suncorp Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm (AEDT).

It has been a dream start for the Broncos, winning four from four – including two derby wins and a huge upset against the Panthers in Penrith. While a lot has been talked about the Broncos’ attack, their defence has been impressive – conceding an average 14.5 points per game.

With the addition of Reece Walsh in the Broncos backline, there is the added spice of youthful arrogance in the Broncos outfit that they are thriving on. The Broncos have all the ingredients to go all the way in 2023.

Now it is all about sustaining that hunger for the whole year – and that starts by asserting their dominance against the struggling outfits while not giving them a chance to think of victory.

All is not well at Tiger town. Currently standing at the bottom of the NRL table winless, Tim Sheens is already hitting the panic buttons. After training with a set spine, Sheens has dumped that idea.

Daine Laurie has gone from starting at fullback in round one to not even making the bench by round five. While new recruits Api Koroisau and John Bateman have shown their mettle and led from the front, there is a huge lack in cohesion among the Tigers’ attack – averaging the worst points scored (14) per game among teams who have played all four rounds in the 2023 NRL season.

Prediction

32-18, 42-24, 48-0, 22-16 – these have been the score lines in the past four games as the Tigers have emerged victorious in all four games against the Broncos. However, there is no doubt that the Broncos start the clash as favourites overwhelmingly.

This Broncos outfit are brimmed with confidence, while also being wary and respecting their opponents. As for the Tigers, you don’t know where their points will come from if they continue their season with giving away errors and penalties.

I think it has more to do with a better HB and forward pack and the fact that he has come home and feels comfortable. Reynolds is helping to bring out the best in him. Slippery Solly the Roosters mole has a lot to answer for forcing Adam Reynolds out the door.

Ok, I can’t dispute what you’re saying GB. I just feel the fact he plays for Brisbane just brings more exposure as well… if he stayed at the warriors and produced the same over these 5 rounds, i don’t feel he would be getting the same dues.

Nicho Hynes was very good at the Melbourne Storm. But it wasn’t until he moved to the Sharks and added responsibility was placed on his shoulders and he started to mature as a player that he won the Dally M player of the Year. . The point is that Hynes became a better player. The same player at the Storm wouldn’t have won that award. . There is still a long way to go in the season and Nicho Hynes is already staking a claim to repeat his Dally M success, but Walsh looks like he is just above most players on the field when he gets the ball in his hands. That was NOT the case last year. . My point is that Walsh has already shown signs of a marked and noticeable improvement to the player he was last year. Last year he was being considered as a back up for FB for QLD in Origin. This year already it is inconceivable that QLD could possibly pick anyone else for the position.

I’m not saying he hasn’t grown, but he was doing this stuff the last two years as well… he was already very good before he got to Brisbane

I've been critical of him in the past, but Payne Haas with his newly discovered offload is the best player in the comp.

You don’t think he looks like he has grown in confidence and gone up 2 gears playing off Adam Reynolds and behind a solid pack of hard working forwards? . Last year Walsh was a good player with a lot of talent playing in a struggling side. This year he is a great player who has played a big part in the Broncos undefeated run is a walk-in for QLD in Origin and is a solid chance of winning the Dally M for player of the year if his form continues.

Take a broom through joint from the top down starting with the CEO and boardroom. Just leave Benji and Robbie to start afresh. Keep Koroisau, Bateman and Papali'i and get rid of the rest. Pay overs for the first 8 replacements and look for promising young players who are itching for an opportunity. A few years ago that was Nicho Hynes, Reece Walsh and Jeremiah Nanai.

Cheers Rob. Dunno if a team who leaks 32 points deserves to win. But it was a fun game to watch. Im glad the knights have more attack this year and guys like Gagai and Lachie Fitz and Best are playing with way more intent. The knights are like that old car you bought new thats had plenty of work over the years and now its just an unreliable, battered 2nd car: it aint much, but it'll do.

A Broncos win, just as most expected, but they made a lot of mistakes put there. Like last week, the Tigers seemed to only really put in during the final 10-15 minutes - strange. Great call, thanks Arnab.

Reynolds and Walsh. Two superb performances from the veteran and the junior.
