Round 26 of the NRL premiership continues when the Canberra Raiders take on the Brisbane Broncos at GIO Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEST).

I love this time of year. Spring is breaking through, the days are getting longer and we tend to get semi final footy that little bit early. This is one of those games, with Canberra especially desperate for a win.

After getting belted by the Storm a fortnight ago, the Raiders finished strongly last weekend to win 36-24 over the Bulldogs. However, Ricky Stuart wouldn’t have been pleased with a number of aspects and will know his side needs better tonight.

The Raiders strength is in their forward pack. If they gain ascendancy in the middle, they have enough class out wide to get wins. However, the Raiders have trouble putting teams away, explaining their poor points differential.

In team changes, Jack Wighton has been named in the reserves and could yet start in what would be a massive boost for Canberra. Albert Hopoate has been named with James Schiller on standby.

The Broncos continue to demonstrate that they are one of two best sides in the premiership, the last evidence of this being a fortnight ago with a 54-10 win against the Eels. It is hard at the moment to see anything but a Broncos and Panthers grand final.

The Broncos base their game on strong go forward, particularly Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan, the organisational skills of Adam Reynolds and an exciting backline.

Reynolds will miss the game with a calf issue, with Jock Madden coming into the halves. Corey Oates returns for his 200th game and Corey Jensen wins a spot on the bench.

Prediction

Reynolds is a large omission for the Broncos and the Raiders need a win to keep themselves relatively secure in the 8. But, there is a next man up culture at Brisbane and I think, after a tight opening, they will prove too strong across the park. Broncos by 12

I suppose Melbourne won last time they met. Pezet will play. He will need a good game.

Geoff, what a game. That's what I've been wanting all year. They had a red hot go. They didn't win, but it was wonderful. They couldn't have done anything more. You are up against it down a man & playing 14. Gee, what a poor performance!

And, Congratulations to Corey Oates on his 200th game. He was stranded for a while on 199, but got the win in a milestone game for him. Hopefully, the Broncos treat him with the respect he deserves in his contract negotiations!

He will have to learn to tackle to be on the same planet as Slater.

Congratulations to Brisbane. They are a much improved side this year and were always going to be a tough assignment for the Raiders. Now they are looking at a possible Minor Premiership which seemed impossible just 2 seasons ago. Despite the loss I think Canberra should cling onto a place in the finals regardless of other results but there are no guarantees they will progress past week 1.

I think Rapana made actual contact. But whether it was enough to warrant a bin is another matter.

No hard feelings because they won and he didn’t get injured. If Walsh ends up with broken ribs it would have been a different story.

Just felt from the start it was always against the raiders. Just the way the game was going raiders had to fight for everything and was still fortunate to be in it to be honest. We got this next weekend raiders let's bring it home.

Raiders have to win next week. No results can be dependant on due to the poor for and against. It's as simple as that. Felt the refs were favouring the favourites tonight due to the big bucks people put on the minor premiership. I feel it plays a part in the decision making of those useless bunker and refs. Bunker should not be getting involved with games in open play unless it's an illegal foul play. Keep it simple. Union does not allow the tmo to get involved with the playing decisions

Garbage decision. Raiders would have had 6 tackles 20 metres out.
