The Parramatta Eels take on the St George Illawarra Dragons in Paul McGregor’s last game as coach. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary, from 7:55pm (AEST).

This Round 14 clash stems to be an important one for both sides. The Eels, currently in third position, will look to lock in a full 80-minute performance, which they have failed to do as of late. The Dragons will help to give coach McGregor’s a proper send-off this weekend.

The Eels will need to continue winning, to keep their top four chances afloat, whereas the Dragons just need to win to keep their slim finals chances alive.

For Parramatta, Ryan Matterson comes back into the side from concussion, with Marata Niukore dropping to the bench and Andrew Davey as 18th man.

Huge reshuffles for the Dragons, as per 2020. Corey Norman gets recalled back into five-eighth, moving Ben Hunt back to hooker and skipper Cameron McInnes to lock. Tyrell Fuimaono starts in the back row for the injured Tariq Sims, along with Korbin Sims and Jacob Host, who join the bench for the injured Trent Merrin.

Key match-up
Ben Hunt v Reed Mahoney
The battle for a Queensland no.9 opportunity. Both hookers are strong candidates to try and lock down the Origin jumper, left by Cameron Smith. Hunt, the incumbent, has been playing fairly well at hooker for the Dragons when called upon – whereas Mahoney is a bright young superstar who seems to just be getting better. The battle of the ruck will be a huge factor in this game, and it will start with both hookers.

Prediction
With all that’s on the line, I expect the Dragons to come out firing (pun intended), but not have enough in the tank against the class of Mitchell Moses and Clint Gutherson.

Careful there, you’re sailing very close to the Andrew Johns “the game’s not played in slow motion” line! :silly:

You looked at it very closely by the sound of it. I missed it because it was so micro. Sounds like they did get it right, but in every game without a slow motion replay that would have been called a try.

Geez it’s nice to see two teams going hard at it and a close game, and an underdog win. What else could you ask for from a game of rugby league on a Friday night! Especially after we’ve had so many lopsided, uncompetitive games this season. Gotta say though I’m surprised reading everyone’s comments about the Dragons’ disallowed try. I thought the bunker got that one exactly right. If the Eels player’s hand isn’t there Ellis drops it. It rolls out of Ellis’s left hand, gets pinned against his body by the tackler’s arm, then Ellis regathers with his right hand. Unusual but Ellis definitely lost control forward into a defender in my opinion and that’s a knock on, even if the ball never actually loses contact with his body.

Geez that's tough, what is he supposed to do after winning his last game?

The optimistic side of me says this will kick them into the gear they were playing in for the first half of the season. The realistic side of me? Far less hopeful. Dodgy attack; flat defence, and a superstar winger that hasn't been playing at the level he's used to for about six weeks. We nabbed points over the last few weeks but we're coming away empty-handed tonight and taking on the competition heavyweights next week. I'll be more sure of which way we're going after our next game on a dry field. That will give the best picture.

As much as Mary had to go it was good to see the big fella go out with a win. He looked like the weight of the world had lifted off his shoulders at full-time, time to see how Youngy goes now
