Things look ominous for the Canterbury Bulldogs as they prepare to take on the rampant Penrith Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Follow along with all the action from this top-versus-bottom battle right here The Roar, with live scores from 3pm (AEST).

After the brief high of beating the Sharks and ending their winless run, normal service has swiftly resumed for the Bulldogs. Even worse, victories for the Sharks and Broncos last week has left them marooned dead last on the table, with just one win; a full two games and 74 points worse than any other team.

Trent Barrett’s charges did put up a fight last week against the Titans after a rough start, but the 30-20 defeat probably sums up their level at the moment. In brighter news, captain Josh Jackson will return, as does prop Jack Hetherington, while the suspended Sione Katoa will be replaced at dummy-half by Jackon Topine. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has also been named despite suffering a foot injury against the Titans.

The Panthers juggernaut just keeps rolling on, the undefeated side embarrassing the Rabbitohs with a 56-12 thrashing in Dubbo. They’re not quite at full strength, with Kurt Capewell to miss a week following a crusher tackle and Dylan Edwards still sidelined with a hamstring injury; but Ivan Cleary’s men have looked a cut above nearly everyone in the NRL this season, and the Dogs are far from a contender.

It would be almost the upset of the century if the Bulldogs could somehow manage a win here. Who thinks they can do it?

Completion rates are the most overrated statistics in rugby league. They have no bearing on wins and losses. Roosters won consecutive premierships with 13th in 2018 and 14th in 2019. The storm I believe were 10th last year. Bulldogs have missed the playoffs 2 years in a row finishing 1st

DWZ is the most overrated player on the Bulldogs. Panthers won by getting rid of him.

As long as the other team has 12 players in there. The Bulldogs can score a try.

Well that was about the dumbest thing a Panther player has done this season ! When leading by 30 and a couple of minutes left ? With SOO and split round 13 coming up the Panthers can now look forward to be missing even one more of their starting team.

Yes, exactly, he should have been sent off, it was an awful cheap shot. I think you may have misconstrued me, it was a give it a rest NRL with your inconsistent rulings on high tackles. For mine that was the worst I’ve seen.

Absolutely no point completing at 80+% when you wait 77 minutes and -30 points to throw two passes off the ruck Wakeham is a waste of space. Averillo tries hard but he’s not a halfback. We’re going to have another young players confidence ruined with the way things are going Forwards are trying hard but it’s constantly one out, one off the ruck with no one trailing. It’s brutal because it’s a licence to get picked off and smashed I’d rather try some things and lose by 40 as do nothing and lose by 50 This will sound like sour grapes and it is what it is but I’m starting to be convinced that the battling teams and good teams get reffed to different standards and expectations Doesn’t make a difference to the early but makes it pretty tough and hard to watch at times…

Panthers play in second gear and win by 26. Dogs put in one of their best performances and lose by 26. That just about sums the two teams up.

The Doggies go in ! Credit where it's due, this could have been a lot worse for the Dogs.
