The State of Origin series goes on the line tonight when New South Wales takes on Queensland at Optus Stadium in Perth for Game 2. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.50pm AEST.

Game 1 in Sydney had a “back to the future” feel about it, with the Blues on the end of a good old-fashioned Maroons ambush.

Billy Slater’s side’s line speed was much faster, with NSW more rattled as the game went on. James Tedesco tried every trick in the book but Queensland’s 16-10 victory was clearly deserved.

On the back of a dominant forward pack led by the likes of Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Pat Carrigan, the Queensland halves had time. Daly Cherry-Evans had his best Origin game in years and Cameron Munster was in everything.

Coach Brad Fittler has made plenty of changes to the Blues roster. Matt Burton comes into the squad to replace Jack Wighton, out due to Covid protocols. Jake Trbojevic and Angus Crichton both come back into the Origin line up, tasked with the job of evening up the ruck contest.

In a surprise, Api Koroisau has been named at starting hooker, with Damien Cook moving back to the bench. Siosifa Talakai gets a spot on the interchange whilst Nicho Hynes bides his time in the 18 jersey.

Queensland’s two changes have been dictated by injury. Jai Arrow comes in for the impressive Reuben Cotter who injured his hamstring in the pre-game warm-up at Manly.

Xavier Coates suffered an ankle injury in the first game and he will be replaced by Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi. Taulagi’s combination with Valentine Holmes will be causing headaches for the Blues defence.

Prediction

I’m a Blues fan and it hurts me to say this.

The changes by Brad Fittler looks like moves of desperation, and I think his fear is well grounded.

Queensland were the better team in Game 1 and, with a short camp this time around, I think the Maroons will be too strong again.

Often that’s because of a lack of refereeing. No on sides & lay on the tackled players forever. Now that’s a pretty common theme with SOO games. Only way Queensland can win,

Don’t like Queensland being kept a little more on side & forced to get up off the tackled player a bit quicker? Queensland seemed to get plenty of penalties early on , to get them out of trouble & allow them to score a couple of times. The club rules for refereeing is how all these games should be played!

No mention of Cobbo? He was terrible. Run around, through, run over , bashed away & thrown over the sideline.

It's bubbling away inside, don't you worry. I was screaming "forward" as the Maroons went over for their first

And everyone predicted a NSW win at Acor and QLD win in Perth. I even said QLD had it G2 at half time, and I'm Blue through and through. Never speak too soon.

Yep the tide has finally turned. And to think of the players NSW didn’t have available that will be on the field next year. There used to be a ton of arrogant comments here by Maroon supporters, unsurprisingly, the recent change of fortune has shut them down.

Over the last four yearsQLD has never won by more than 6 points, while NSW are delivering thrashings regularly. Paints a picture.

yep. I’ll be enjoying my 4th moment in 5 years. The 44-12 thrashing sits nicely alongside last year’s hammerings as well. Come to think of it… I’m losing count of my enjoyable moments :silly:

Tino and Papalii both played early mins but then they were taken off for ages. Probably scared of Jurbo which is understandable

"danwain" its nothing compared to what Qld have been getting away with throughout the years and since 1982 when these series started as the SOO and especially early on as it was evident that the main goal was for these games to be very controversial and they wanted to get this thing going as there wasn't much enthusiasm from NSW fans and Qld fans to be at each other (as the previous NSW v Qld were just a bash fest and irrelevant as NSW always won) and they had to get the Banana bender firing up and having some hope :silly: then things got fired up, hence and why the refs were recruited to be the center of all this promotions and sus calls etc etc and its especially with the good old Baza Gomersall the Grasshopper for Qld and Kevin Roberts for NSW that competed with giving sus calls and all the drama associated with that.

Molo, Gilbert, Flegler. Not sure about the conditions under foot suiting Cobbo, Gagai, and Holmes. Tino and Papalii were not seen. The 6 again blitz and sin binning sucked the oxygen out of the Queensland team. Flat, dry home track will certainly help. NSW will be super confident and that’s exactly how we like them.

Forgive winning combos. If they lose the game, probably, but the way they won, no way.
