The Wallabies are wounded and chasing their first win of the Rugby Championship. Tonight, they run into the Springboks, who themselves are smarting after a loss at the hands of Argentina last start. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 8pm AEST.

The Wallabies have played the All Blacks twice in the last month, and lost both comfortably. Both times they were well in the contest at halftime, before being run over the top of, and put away in the second 40 minutes.

The Springboks have had slightly different fortunes in recent times, beating Argentina at home, before losing to them away last start in what was an insipid and lacklustre 80 minute performance.

It begs the question, what happens tonight?

Australia have been rocked by two late changes to their starting XV. Arguably their two best players, David Pocock was ruled out on Friday with a neck issue, before Israel Folau had his name crossed off the team sheet on Saturday morning, courtesy of his troublesome hamstring.

Pete Samu comes in at No.8, and Jack Maddocks to the right wing respectively. Tom Banks and Ned Hanigan win spots on the bench.

Other changes see Rory Arnold start, with Sekope Kepu dropped out of the 23 entirely.

In the backs, the big news is the demotion of Bernard Foley to the bench for the first time in 3 years, with Kurtley Beale to wear the number 10 jersey. Matt Toomua starts at 12, with Reece Hodge retaining his place at outside centre.

For the Springboks, Malcolm Marx is a big in on the bench as replacement hooker. Their backline is extremely hot when fit and firing, and their back three of Le Roux, Mapimpi and Dyantyi will be a threat all evening.

Siya Kolisi and Pieter Steph Du Toit resume their ever growing combination in the flankers.

Prediction
Who wants this game more?

Both sides enter this game on the back of poor last start performances, and need to start quickly.

The South Africans will be buoyed by the news of Australia missing their two best players, and may see an opportunity to snatch a victory away from home.

So you know where I was Eagle Jack. Are you 100% certain I did not watch it? You see in my work, I travel a lot but do not change my Roar Name to suit where I am. But I was in Bishkek and watched it in a fashion as a mate picked up a poor streaming that was in and out like the phantom. So the blog was going and so was the streaming.

Pixies, we did not win it. The Bokkies won it for us. Without the stupid error and easy try to Toomua and yes you take your chances when playing, then we lost or it was a draw. That is perspective and as a senior rugby coach said to me - there has been no improvement in phases, plays and backline moves since 2015, the last 3 years.

yeah. I am usually pretty down on the turgid South Africa vs Australia games than seem to be common when these two sides play each other, but this game was ok, sure not as good as the Argies vs Kiwis, but a decent game nonetheless. Not sure why everyone is so negative on the game. The scoreline reflected the game as well. South African always looked the better side on the field, but also were the ones who made the most mistakes on the field. The Aussies as usual offered little in attack (Larkham seems to be as bad at coaching as he was as good at playing), but were more consistent. Hooper as usual was a bloody terrible captain but at least this time he played ok and was not hanging around in the South African backline hoping for an intercept.

EJ, Foley is a great rugby player, on of the best untility backs in the world. One of the best 15 players in Australia. But not a classical playmaker. The evidence has been there from day one. Lack of a long pass or kicking game despite a courageous and earnest attitude. And not growing into these core skills despite his best efforts. His best position in a well balanced Wallaby side is, IMO, from the pine, coming on late and darting around tired legs. Your pretentious reference to Fionn’s feelings is irrelevant and a case of playing the man. Poor play from you and unhelpful to the debate around who is Australia’s best 10. A significant national and international portion of opinion has consistently pointed north where arguably Australia’s most skilled and committed 10 resides.

I honestly think your blokes can win the cup next year. They played so badly tonight but could’ve so easily won. They’re such a talented side. Imagine what they’ll be like when they’re well coached!!

Yeah let’s all say the game was rubbish, and our national team dogged it! The moral outrage that is all forms of social media!

Can we please get some positive commentary - Toomua was great, imagine when he’s had a sleep! So much better tonight with the control for attacking phases, cmon roarers I dare you think say something positive! You have to keep that backline but with Folau injecting from the wing, I think it’s possible!

That was the worst test match I’ve ever had the displeasure to attend. Cricket score coming up in Wellington and the Argies are licking their lips in anticipation.

Just got it!! I guess a win is good even if we played so average! I think that all players put in and played with heart and that showed with our goal line defence and the second half D. I think we looked like a bunch of guys who have never met each other before with a lacked of combinations and it showed big time with numerous errors off set moves in the back line and a rusty lineout (all though they got away with it due to any unusually average Saffa lineout). I don't think this is totally unexpected with so many changes i.e. New 9,10 ,12 combo, Toomua new to the setup ( and basically being the new backline general), Folua in or out all week and a massive part of our attacking structure out, a kid on the wing ( i like him though he has alot to learn about getting over the line at this level), losing our lineout captain at the last minute, half of the back line not currently being a specialist in there position, Poey out late, and Hooper clearly not at full fitness ( when have you seen the guy run like he used too since he has been back, he has no pace/ fitness at all and that is his big thing). So, i would call that seriously disrupted prep and we still got the win!! And did anyone else notice how many players already subbed off went back on! We had players going down left right and centre, going on and off willy nilly and we still managed to match our opposition. Can we please get a national lineout throwing acadamy please!! Once again we had way to many shot throws. Apart from the classic Simmons clanga the subs seem to have put in and at least held there own, apart from Tupou who showed he should be run on if fit with out a doubt (i've got a feeling he may be out for next week, Cheik seems to puts player first always and can't see him not having something wrong with him after being folded in one of the scrums we lost). Forwards were generally good in the loose although i think there was zero turn overs (no Poey, Hooper can't turn over shit!), good work by Samu and Tui. In the end it was a win, so good on you boys. Go the WALLABIES!!

I think that was the silliest rugby match I ever saw. But Australia was the deserved winner.
