Week 9 A-League Men’s action kicks off with a rare Thursday night game when the inconsistent Brisbane Roar host the reigning champions Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:45pm (AEDT).

Prediction

After a shock loss last time out, Brisbane will be looking to rebound quickly and prove to the fans that the resurgence in 2023/24 is indeed real and sustainable.

The Mariners did all but beat Melbourne City last week and have looked an improving side over the last month.

It will be a rampant Mariners second half performance that gets them three important points on the road.

Thought Roar would make a comeback when Kuol was replaced.

It was almost comical how bad Brisbane were. The one highlight being in about the 75th minute when The Den decided to try lift the team, they were fantastic.

The second goal lost last night by Aldred and Freke reminds the memory of Craig Moore and Liam Reddy in 2008. Same situation, old captain with a novice goal keeper. Moore was branded as old and slow and was pruned by Ange later. Liam Reddy matured gradually. It was still okay when Scott Neville was still around. But once Neville has joined the cohort of injured, the defence collapsed. Any good coach can see that. And that means Brisbane Road may have just started the losing streak.

East Coast Bias for sure, 3 away games in eight days, Philippines, Melbourne, Brisbane.... Roar had a lot of their best out, looks like we have changed formation from Monty's 442, to a 433... For this squad it works better, especially as the two wide front players always track back in defence, Torres gives for all in defence. We need a 9, Kuol is also better in a wide up front role as well...

Brisbane needs a stadium with a retractable roof. The A League needs to be a long term tenant.

Roar played poorly no doubt. The club is cursed with the weather though.. that's a few games now that storms have rolled in beforehand and no doubt keeps people who might have otherwise attended, at home.

Lionheart. Missed this game, (will watch later) , but a view at the stats and also Ross's interview, back up completely what you say. This Roar team has been flattering to deceive with the lack of quality fullbacks causing breaches in defence that are beginning to result in a high rate of flaws appearing game after game. The hard done to fans have been fooled by the high rate of possession football with even the keeper being forced to use a tactic pioneered by the successful Holland team as long ago as 1974, the job of goalkeeper / sweeper, (Joengblut). This is a tactic designed to help a defence to remain strong, but is extremely dangerous should some of the players not fully appreciate their job in the system. Last night/s stats again point out the lack of scoring attempts being successful, only 5 shots out of 13 hitting the target .(the loss of Hore to injury has no doubt brought this flaw into focus) .For comparison last night's opponents had 8 shots with 4 on target. Corners again pointed out a huge difference ,Roar getting 9 with no success, the opponent only 1. So once again playing high percentage possession football without a recognised "finisher" like (Berisha,) is proving to be a luxury. Felt sorry for Ross,he really appeared to be stuck for some answers to the questions being asked cheers . jb

Unconscious East-Coast-Bias    I guess City's 3:3 draw against CCM last week was commendable after all

Should add, Evans is a terrible ref and his offsider on the western side was much worse.

Very disappointing by Roar, Mariners much stronger on the ball and they've leaned a few tricks, disappointing but the ref pays it. Can't say much more, wet and Den were fantastic against all odds.

All Brisbane in the last 10 minutes. Mariner’s asleep. Freke was shocking in goal for Roar. Mariner’s with a number of very skilled players. Silky to the max.
