The Socceroos will look to maintain their perfect World Cup qualifying start as they take on Vietnam in Hanoi. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 10pm (AEST).
After their solid win in the opening match of this qualifying campaign, Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has made it clear that he has no intention on rotating his squad despite the short five day turnaround.
“It’s a World Cup qualifier and I’ve got to put my best team out there that I feel that is ready to go on to the pitch and perform at its best.”
This means he’s keen to give striker Martin Boyle plenty of time to prove his fitness after the goal scorer from the last game had to come off in the second half.
Star playmaker Aaron Mooy will be keen to continue his return to full time international duty. Having not played much football in a few months, Mooy came off the bench last week against China and impressed with the way he controlled the game in the final stages.
For the Vietnamese side this is going to be a tough night. They lost their first match in the group 1-3 and, while they will be playing at home, they will have to do so without a crowd behind them as Vietnam keeps sporting events closed.
Coach Park Hang-seo was disappointed with the way his side gave away their early lead against Saudi Arabia and will be hoping that a return home will motivate his men. He will be without talented youngster Do Duy Manh though after the defender was sent off in the previous game.
Prediction
The Socceroos might be playing away from home but this should be another 3 points in the bag for them on the journey to Qatar. They are the better side across the pitch and with any advantage of playing at home pretty much gone with the crowds being kept away, the Australians should feel confident heading into this match.

Definitely disappointed that the long throws didn't make an appearance. They should have.

The game was played on a furry sponge. We did what we had to noting the atrocious conditions. Now let's never speak of this game again.

Australia had just 6 shots over 90 minutes and the winner came from Grant of all people. Need to do better.

Arnold totally outcoached by a really old bloke. It was like the opposition coach dug a hole put some palm fronds over it, and Arnie kept falling into it time after time. The irony was at the Olympics Arnie reverted to long ball and long throws when he shouldn't have and this time he had a much shorter team and a rough pitch.

I dare say Vietnam look a different side in cooler climes as well. It was tough for both sides.

Did we use all our subs, I think we only used 4.

Agreed. I think the fans would have been the 12th man Vietnam needed to get a draw, or even a win, tonight.

I said in the lead-up I’d be content with a 0-1 win. I’m content. Vietnam are not as a good as us but they are tactically smart and don’t drop their heads ala China. The pitch may have been sub-par and the humidity through the roof however that’s par for the course. In those conditions, with a team sitting as deep as they did, it was always going to be a grind. Grind we did, 3-points. Well done to the team in a difficult match and kudos to Vietnam. The subs made sense in such conditions; players that tend to sit a little deeper in midfield to cover any sudden break when the energy levels are low. A little less flair, a little more graft. Great game from the ref who managed to keep the game moving despite all the congestion.

It seems AA was wrong again, Grant wins us the game.

FULL-TIME 0-1 Not exactly a vintage performance from the Socceroos, but sometimes the result is all that matters. Graham Arnold will be delighted to have taken all six points from a couple of difficult-looking fixtures. Thanks for joining me on the live blog tonight. Don't forget to check back on The Roar tomorrow morning for all the reaction from Australia's 1-0 win over Vietnam.
