Anthony Seibold is on the way to Newcastle

By The King of the World / Roar Guru

Fallen ex-Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold will be coming to Newcastle as a player consultant.

From what I understand, it’s a bit of a similar role as a counsellor. Not telling all your problems with someone but more so helping them mentally with anything bothering them with the footy such as the latest article criticising them or the couch coaches online bashing them.

I have been seeing it for years. I’m not trying to have a go at any Knights fans but on a yearly basis, there’s always one Knights player who gets all the heat in the world from the fans.

With a player consultant, the team can excel on the field with a better mentality. If there’s one thing I have picked up on, the better teams do have a consultant so they can run on the field with a more relaxed approach.

Anthony Seibold may have coached Brisbane to a wooden spoon this year and the Brisbane club culture got buried by the coach before him. The same happened with Newcastle. Old man Wayne Bennett and his shovel strikes again. Let’s not forget two years ago, Seibold was the Dally M Coach of the Year for his amazing work with South Sydney.

The Newcastle club culture is back and just as strong as it was in its glory days. Remember those days when the Knights tore up the competition and consistently made the finals? We will have them back once again.

This year the club made the finals, which is what the fans wanted. If I had to pick my favourite moment of the year, it was when Josh King after 59 games finally managed to score his first try when Newcastle thumped Cronulla.

It was a proud moment for many of us because he was on the wrong end of a lot of criticism over the years.

With State of Origin over and the rugby league calendar reaching its end, we have got the off-season. In this time, I really hope Seibold can get the players switched on a bit more mentally.

The online criticism will never stop. I don’t mind constructive criticism of players but not everyone has to be Gordon Ramsay.

I urge Knights fans online to ease up a bit because the players do find out.

With the fact Newcastle ticked off the goal of making the finals, the club has another goal and that’s to win the big one.

The Knights can do it. With a more switched-on mindset and perhaps a bit less cockiness, the club can tear the competition apart in the upcoming years.

OMGoodness two coaches who have the shadow of Bennett over them.. Could be more whinging and bitching than is constructive discussion internally. I can't see how this is a good move for the Knights. Given so many other clubs will be on the rise, I predict a fall in the numbers for the Knights in 2021

As the coach of Brisbane’s wooden spoon and worst season this is such a poor and ill-judged decision taking on Seibold. His last 2 year have been a train wreck, he (for now) is damaged goods, I doubt he is in the right frame of mind, and if I was a Newcastle player I wouldn’t be running to him for advice either. Seibs needs to take a break and come back in 2-3 years time.

Adrian, still coming to grips with Wayne Bennet's tenure at Newcastle. You go to the grave with that millstone around your neck. But look on the bright side as you said you've got a wooden spoon coach coming in to motivate every one. Can it get any better than that

Apparently Siebold is a mate of O'Brien from his time at Melbourne. They were both at the Storm.

I thought this was a wind up when I first read it. Nothing has happened to change my mind yet.

Surely it’s coaching consultant ( ie on a casual basis) not player consultant.

I see where you're coming from. Thanks for the clarification. It's only a guess but maybe the Knights see his recent involvement in the game plus some other skills they like, as factors which outweigh getting a professionally trained person involved. Or maybe you're right!

His issues at Brisbane seem to be that he confused the players too much. Better to stick him in the back room and have him only talk to the coach

I was referring to "the boys" as an ex player/coach and the fact that there must certainly be thousands of better qualified, medically trained inspirational motivators and mentors out there than Anthony Seibold.

feedback that's not delivered in a constructive way, be it positive or negative, is often destructive. I think Confucius said that. Or if he didn't, he should have

I'm curious to know how you see this as a job for one of the boys Walter? If anything, I'd have thought Seibold would have untouchable as a football commodity, given his fall from grace with the Broncos.

Interesting appointment. I would have seen Siebold as more of an analyst than a player welfare type. Probably not the best time for your credibility to be critical of Bennett after he’s done it yet again. The culture in that QLD team looked ok.

He didn't have much luck fixing the mindsets of players at Brisbane so for the Knights' sake I hope he has a better connect with the players.

No such thing as constructive criticism. It's either negative or positive feedback. 1 st rule in physocology at least its my first rule.

Hmmm, not an appointment I would be over joyed at if I were a Newcastle fan. Smacks very much of a job for the boys if you ask me.
