You can now sign up for Stan Sport ahead of the Super Rugby season

By The Roar / Editor

The start of the Super Rugby season is little over three weeks away, and rugby fans can now sign up to the platform which will be showing every game.

After Rugby Australia’s much-publicised new broadcast deal saw the organisation end its long-running partnership with Fox Sports, all Super Rugby matches, Wallabies Tests, Shute Shield and Hospital Cup, Currie Cup and more will be shown live and on-demand on Stan under the Stan Sport add-on.

The platform will also feature an “extensive library of classic Wallabies and Super Rugby matches”.

While it’s still too early to actually watch anything on Stan Sport, and there’s no official launch date yet, subscriptions to the streaming service are now available to “pre-activate”, and viewers who do so now will be given a 30-day free trial before the $10 per month subscription fee kicks in.

You can sign up to Stan Sport here, just keep in mind you’ll need a regular Stan subscription before being able to add on the sport plan.

In addition to rugby, Stan Sport will also show two tennis majors – Wimbledon and the French Open – and are expected to attempt to add to their list of offerings.

While the platform is the only place to watch every single Super Rugby match this year, you will still be able to watch some of the competition on free-to-air TV, with the Nine Network to broadcast one match per round, as well as Wallabies Tests and some Sydney and Brisbane club rugby.

Thanks for letting me know Sluggy. Well that's a season's subscription they have lost straight off the bat. Who are they trying to appeal to ? 5 year olds.

I hope it's not Sean Maloney. If it is, I won't subscribe. Simple.

I similarly hope it isn't forgotten...That is most of the casual profile and interest in the sport, right there.

What's going to happen to Rugby broadcasts in pubs and clubs. Will they take up Stan? I suspect many won't. Surely that is not good for promotion of the game.

It’s on the Stan sport splash page: https://www.stan.com.au/sport “PRE-ACTIVATE YOUR 30 DAY FREE TRIAL FOR A LIMITED TIME Your free trial of the Sport add-on will start when Stan Sport launches” It doesn’t say how long the offer is for.

Do you know how long the free trial is on for? I couldn't find a date for when it expires. I was going to take the free months starting on Feb 19, the first day of a super rugby game. BTW tou can stream Stan through your Telstra TV box. From their web site Get your movies, TV shows, sport and music all in one place with new Telstra TV. Stream Netflix, Stan, Foxtel Now and Kayo, watch free-to-air & catch up TV, and more. It's your TV, made smarter.

My understanding was that 9 would show one of the opening round Friday night games FTA before reverting to Saturday nights for the rest of the season.

You'll get a free month trial if you sign up in the next little while. I bought a Telstra TV box to watch Kayo on my HD telly. Not to worry, can now stream Stan via my FetchTV box. For those who don't know, you can also stream BeIN sport through FetchTV.

We live in the country, and get our internet via a 4G dongle, which is fairly fast, but has very expensive costs per downloaded GB (and low limits.. definitely nothing unlimited, it also has to be with Telstra to get coverage). I am a Super Rugby addict, and "need* all the games, but am worried that streaming over the internet will cost me hundreds per year in download fees. My Foxtel box now is internet connected, which can be handy on the odd occasion, but I have all the rugby series linked, so if I miss a game live, I always had the recording, and therefore didn't have to stream or download a copy to watch it = convenient AND a fixed price. We also don't get channel 9 in our area - so although I am (genuinely) happy rugby is on free to air - it's no good for us. I'll probably cancel Foxtel after the Six Nations, but I'm going to miss it's rugby coverage. Maybe if Telstra and Stan Sport feel like partnering up that'd be helpful?! Free downloads for Stan content?!

Most guys still seem to miss the point about losing 6 Nations & European Rugby. I understand these games will continue to be provided by beIN Sports on Foxtel. As well as NRL, AFL, cricket, golf, etc. Fair dinkum rugby tragics will either keep Foxtel & pay extra for Stan just for Super Rugby or else ditch Foxtel & try to stream the Euro rugger via the buffering-plagued sports internet sites. In summary, Foxtel losing Super Rugby is a costly & messy disappointment.

Isn’t it great. Fight sequences are sensational.

Kayo was certainly much better value when they had the rugby than what Stan is offering. Stan is only being celebrated by the people who only like rugby and no other sports, which is a small minority.

If you have Stan you have lots of TV and movie content. The value proposition is different (film and television over other sport), but it's still pretty similar.

Agreed.... Sometimes we forget how much sport, news, film, TV and music we get from the USA. Oh, and alot of America's politics too, across the spectrum... Good to take a break from it. I've had Stan previously and found it was pretty good in having local Australian content

Great stuff, as I've already installed ' Stan, the man', & ridding ourselves of that one sided Rupert Murdoch NewsCorp media gutter trash. As it is, this will be great for the game, even though it's still on a pay TV channel that actually provides more, instead of the constant Yank view of global sport.

Where can you watch SR Aotearoa? Is than on Stan Sports too or somewhere else? Also, 6 Nations- where? I have Foxtel now which will be gone very soon if no 6N.
