The 2021 AFL trade period comes to a close today, with the deadline closing at 7:30pm (AEDT) tonight. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action throughout the entire day.

It was a disappointingly barren day yesterday, with no deals being and very little news breaking – but that just means it’s all set to explode today.

Bobby Hill’s quest to get to Essendon looks to have been made that much harder after GWS list manager Jason McCartney publicly declared a deal was highly unlikely. Collingwood are known to be interested in him as well, but it’s Bombers or bust in the Hill camp.

Of course, we still have the drawn-out sagas of Jordan Dawson and Jordan Clark to sort out. Adelaide and Sydney still can’t seem to agree on a deal for Dawson, while Geelong and Fremantle have named their price and are waiting on the other party to blink on Clark.

Peter Ladhams is also keen to join the Swans, but there’s some water to pass under the bridge before that happens, while Rory Lobb’s allegedly cancelled return to Greater Western Sydney could yet bob up again.

There’s sure to be plenty of action, as well as a surprise or two, so join The Roar for a live blog of all the latest news throughout the trade and free agency period, starting from 9am (AEDT).

Don’t worry about Adelaide - with Burgess coming in, Dawson, another high pick this year (Mac Andrew or F Callaghan), plus loading up for Lukosius / Rankine homecoming next year - then throw Crouch, Milera, Pedlar in about didnt play at all last year + natural growth of the young squad. May not make finals next year, or the next - but will have a pretty damn fine side by end 2023

Geelong and Richmond aren't 3peaters they're just 3 time premiers in recent seasons although that's just me being pedantic. The Ceglar for Fort argument, you traded Fort and you got Ceglar in another deal, my issue with that is that it isn't an improvment, I don't think Ceglar is better than Fort, Fort didn't play this year as the cats preferred Stanley, but before doing his ankle last year he was good, I don't know why they didn't persist with him. My issue with the Clarke deal is that they wanted pick 19(more valuable than pick 22 due to it beginning the second day of drafting), he was a contracted player, they could've held firm but they blinked. I'm not bagging Geelong in any way I'm just stating my opinion, they have no picks until the second round and very little established youth to fall back on, where is their improvment going to come from? you could argue that they did well to get to third after having key players out for long periods of time which is fair enough but their overall age is a factor that they hsven't addressed

Berrlins what was so good about Clarke that Geelong lost the trade period because they couldn't hold on to him or get pick 19 in the draft ? Have a look at the goal he missed against GWS about round 20 and tell me if that is the standard a first round three year player should meet .Then your next assertion we also lost out on Forte how many games did he play this year ? Lke many posters its fashionable to bag Geelong .There's been four three peat sides this century Brisbane was in the wilderness for over a decade ( did play a gf immediately after last flag ) Hawthorn are a long way off it and Richmond have to rise again this year or they may need to re - build .Geelong haven't won another flag but so far there the only one of the three peat teams that's had a chance to do so .

Mostly agree Hawk, but the Eagles do ok with them. Tom Barrass, Jeremy McGovern & Willie Rioli come to mind. They can't rely on high picks courtesy of being in the finals so regularly. But they mostly tend to develop 2nd rounders like Oscar Allen, Liam Ryan, Elliot Yeo etc. It will be interesting to see what they do with a reasonable pick this year (10 - 12)

I could see that, GWS do need more key position players, also because of history they just don't like the Bulldogs.

Fox are reporting now that GWS are more likely to bid on Darcy at pick 2 than Daicos.

I think Ladhams has a bright future.I believe the reason he left is that he knows Sam Hayes has a really bright future, they would be competing for the number 2 ruck position behind Lycett until someone dethrones Lycett.I think that person would be Hayes

First of all the Freo third round is Carlton's, so are you not backing your boys to finish above Geelong this year?

I think you'll be big winners on the Ladhams trade. The change of environment will do him the world of good. I read a comment he made recently that he didn't feel he was getting enough time for ruck development at Port. You'd hope that will change at Sydney with some help from Cox. Be interesting see if Sydney look to repurpose some of their other talls into defenders.

The Hawks finished brilliantly but he will never admit it. When it’s hard he reverts to spin and waffle.

Think my team Sydney didn’t fare wonderfully. Paid overs for Ladhams ( sliding a first round pick 4 places for a prospective ruckman is a big punt) and they were under- compensated, without much option , for Dawson. Maybe it’ll turn out ok. Ladhams is only 23 and could be a smart future investment. And maybe the future first rounder tied to Melbourne (exchanged for Dawson) will be higher than expected. Regardless losing Dawson hurts. I predict Dawson will be a shining light in SA, though not enough to extract Adelaide from its mediocrity.
