The 2021 AFL trade period enters its final stretch, with a series of deals still to be confirmed. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action as the second week of the trade period begins from 9am (AEDT).

Some big dominos have already fallen in the first week, most notably Adam Cerra having his request to head to Fremantle granted. However, with Jordan Dawson still trying to get to Adelaide and speculation mounting over a multitude of senior Hawthorn players finding new homes, there’s still plenty of action to be seen in the last days of the period.

Last week’s action finished quietly, though Richmond and North Melbourne beat the 5pm deadline by facilitating a last-minute trade that saw Callum Coleman-Jones become a Roo and Robbie Tarrant head to Tigerland, along with a slew of draft picks.

North also showed just how desperate they are at picking up the exciting Jason Horne-Francis with their prized pick 1 in this year’s draft, knocking back a request from Adelaide to trade it, and by extension Horne-Francis, for their pick 4 and two first-rounders in 2022.

News broke over the weekend that GWS goalsneak Ian ‘Bobby’ Hill has requested a trade to Melbourne for family reasons, with Essendon tipped as the favourite to land him. Depending on how that trade goes, it has the potential to open up Fremantle tall Rory Lobb’s move back to his home state, though the Dockers remain adamant they’re reluctant to move him on.

Fremantle footy boss Peter Bell left Lobb’s manager Colin Young less than impressed, after he revealed on radio the Giants’ first offer for the forward-ruck wasn’t enough for the Dockers to consider moving him on.

As for the Hawks, coach Sam Mitchell’s apparent desire for some form of list cull will depend on the next few days. So far, only Tim O’Brien has jumped ship to the Western Bulldogs, but ruckman Jonathon Ceglar looks all but certain to head to Geelong sooner rather than later. Port Adelaide have reportedly expressed their interest in securing Jaeger O’Meara, but ball magnet Tom Mitchell, veterans Luke Breust and Jack Gunston and virtually everyone over 26 have all been placed on the table should anyone be interested.

Meanwhile, Jordan Dawson’s move from Sydney to the Crows still has to be finalised, though it’s looking likely another team will need to get involved to break the stalemate.

Join The Roar for a live blog of all the latest news throughout the trade and free agency period, starting from 9am (AEDT).

I think most Hawthorn fans would be happy to know that senior players do not want to leave the club. It probably sends a good message out to the rest of the competition. Coaches often get judged for not being proactive enough, he has opened the door to listen to offers. Nothing wrong with that. I will start judging him come about June next year to see whether we are playing good footy.

All fair points but respectfully any Hawks fan knows how intense our rivalry with Geelong is so opting to go there is desertion in my book. Furthermore, he could have repaid the faith and stayed for the rebuild IMHO after being giving his start as a mature age player by the Hawks.

2020: Clubs that got multiple players in trade period Brisbane Carlton Essendon Geelong GWS Gold coast Hawthorn North Melbourne Port Adelaide St Kilda West coast Western bulldogs 2021 clubs that had multiple players in trade period Collingwood Carlton Fremantle (if jordan clark comes through) Seriously But carlton are a given to just get someone in trade period Why can't carlton take a year off for once? Its honestly very hard not to be cynical as a carlton supporter honestly Mitch McGoverns he going to fix all of our problems Struggling in the VFL, from a 700, 000 key forward everyone wanted to a guy thats been turned into a defender because they don't have any other defenders Setterfield hes going to be a superstar Struggles to get into the team Cam O Shea Hes going to be great Why not Darcy Lang? Aaron Mullett he looks like a gun Why not Matthew Lobbe Alex fasolo hes a gun small forward Even williams and saad have been very underwhelming I don't a club in the last 7 years has had more trade failures than carlton They're like milhouse from the simpsons Everythings coming up carlton Tell me a great carlton trade they have made in the last 5 years besides getting back eddie betts

Been a very quiet trade period Especially compared to 2020 2020: Jeremy Cameron, Adam Treloar, Ben Brown, Isaac Smith, Joe Daniher, Zac Williams, Adam Saad, Jaidyn Stephenson, Jesse Hogan, Brad Crouch All big names the average football watcher knows 2021: George Hewett, Adam Cerra, Jordan Clark, Peter Ladhams, Jeremy Finlayson, Jordan Dawson, Robbie Tarrant Besides Cerra, Clark and Tarrant there have not been any big names And Tarrants past his use by date What about these hawthorn players Im of the opinion hawthorn must get rid of Luke Breust, take a 3rd or 4th rounder for him, he wont be there for the next premiership and is just holding youngsters back and Breust and Gunston, Hawthorn would be better off moving them on

The comment was they believe him and Daicos are both good enough for number one and as Horne-Francis wants to be the number one so they will grant him his dream.

Nick Daicos was a mad Carlton supporter and yes was apparently very tempted to avoid the pressure of being the number one pick at his famous Dads club by joining mates at the Suns. Maybe the fear of being savagely booed every time they play the Pies got him over the line .

Also beat Brisbane and GWS . Disastrous. With Sicily , Gunson and Impey back next year it can only get worse , eh?

In fairness to Isaac Smith , Hawthorn offers only one year contracts to over 30's and Geelong offered two. Also Smith is a country boy and wanted to live with his young family away from the big city. He also likes the idea of being closer to the surf and go surfing with the likes of P. Dangerfield. After ten years , 210 games and contributing to three Flags at Hawthorn it's pretty harsh to call his leaving Hawthorn "desertion." (And to alleviate any speculation as to my loyalties , i have been a Hawthorn supporter since aged eight in 1957 - longer than almost all Roar readers have been alive.)

Obviously player managers talk to their players about what they are looking for both in the short term & the long term. If a player wants to move on, of course a manager is going talk to other clubs about future opportunities. I think we would be naive to think all clubs, managers & players are not doing it.

Uwland and Harris both hurt themselves working day jobs to put themselves through the Academy. Bloody ridiculous that these kids have to pay their own way. Bella is the kid we need, while Stevens is the one with the connection to the NT. Harris might double qualify for a B rookie spot with a Thai mother and being Academy. Stevens played with an Indigenous youth team called the Boomerangs, but given the club does zero on Academy players I haven’t actually found out if he is actually Indigenous, which would also qualify him for that spot. Fyfe was delisted for non-football reasons because his VFL resume was outstanding for an 18 yo. Nicholls did nothing of note, yet kept his spot. Nothing against him, but I don’t see an AFL player compared to the 4 I mentioned. Cameron’s comments are always careful and ambiguous. I think he referred to the number of draftable players, which includes Pescud and the young rucks. Maybe even Foggo and Little. All up I rate 11 Suns Academy players as worthy of consideration, but again zero reporting by the Suns. Still waiting for a bombshell late trade, maybe with Hawthorn for a player or moving back with Richmond. If the Suns hold pick 3 right through I think any of Callaghan, Gibcus or Mac Andrew will be there as best players available. Don’t really need another mid, but he might be irresistible. Another South Sudanese player would create a nice dynamic, but a developing tall defender is the clear need.

After watching and hoping with Dees for so many years they just are getting it right the last say 5-6 years. Really happy with Dunstan from the saints and pick 17. We also have son we players like hunt, Tomlinson who missed the gf who are excellent players as well as a couple of 20 yos who haven't played Hopefully the young ones like bowey/ Jackson/ rivers/ Kossi/Spargo/petty/ sparrow will continue to improve Next season will be fascinating.

Yeah, it will be interesting. I expect minimal changes from now on. I have a feeling the club wants to keep players together and give young players on the rookie list opportunity to prove themselves. The last two years were terrible for development. I just hope not only AFL but also VFL can have close to normal season. It will interesting to see if VFL team can travel on regular flights etc. I was a bit surprised that Fyfe was delisted. He showed something. I guess, Suns are well stocked in his position. Nicholls would be my first choice to de-list but somebody mentioned that he is possibly on 2 year contract. Uwland got stress fractures :-(

I don’t think clubs ever have to worry about not spending money, they can always front end contracts and create future space.

I don’t think the Pies will get much due to him not having played a lot, probably a fourth rounder. I read that Wright said they want him tp stay and there hasn’t been much dialogue between the club’s. Hard to gauge what he is actually worth. I like the idea of him and Reeves playing alongside Mcevoy for the next couple of years which will give him an opportunity to develop his game and his age fits the Hawks rebuild profile. I don’t see the point in North bidding on him, Pies are always going to match and most reports l have read recently have Francis Horne just in front of him. Pies supporters are just lucky that Rowell and Anderson didn’t get him over the line to Gold Coast.
