Hawthorn have an upset on their mind when they take on ladder-leaders Collingwood at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:35pm (AEST).

The Hawks have been a challenging opponent for many strong teams this year, and with tagger Finn Maginness set to run with Magpies star Nick Daicos, it’s set to be a challenging afternoon for the premiership favourites.

Maginness successfully blanketed the Brownlow fancy in a pre-season match, and fresh off other curtailing jobs such as his masterful shutdown of Josh Kelly a few weeks ago, this contest could well be key to the match for the Hawks.

He is exactly the same size as Selwood and heavier than Selwood when he started so why can’t he get a hard ball instead of getting the easy out the back one’s? And he’s taller than Voss and only 5 kilos lighter than Voss was at the end of his career so your comparisons don’t make a whole lot of sense

"Shirked more contact in the last 2 games than most blokes do in a career". Nasty and inaccurate. With his build he is never going to play like a Voss or Selwood but nor should he. Plus he is only 20. I am a Swans supporter and don't like Collingwood but Daicos is a star and isn't soft or a downhill skier. He is now out injured for 6 weeks but was tough enough to stay on despite this.

Pot calling the kettle black a bit Pete. You Collingwood fans have been salivating over him all year about how he’s the best player in the league but now that he’s been found out a bit you say he’s only a kid. Very typical of you Pete, you like having your say on all clubs and their players but you can’t handle it when something is pointed out about one of your darlings

How is it nasty and inaccurate? Which part of my comment isn't true?

Pathetic, unnecessarily nasty and inaccurate comment. Presumably makes you feel like a big man.

I think you may be right this time. Mitchell closer to a premiership than Scott. :silly:

You bet. A little more composure at the last bounce and Eagles win. The young players doing well.

Remember Hawks did this to Eagles at home in 2019? Derailed their season.

They're young which explains the inconsistency, but when they finally get it together, well.....

I thought last week's loss to Carlton was the wake-up call Collingwood needed to realise their game needed improvement, all the comebacks notwithstanding. Was very surprised to see they got worse this week rather than better. They'll still finish top and they're still the favourites, but the gap is shrinking by the week, and at this time of year their form is going the opposite way to the way it should be.

Nick Daicos has proven 2 weeks in a row that he is useless when the blokes doing the dirty work on the inside get beaten, he’s a downhill skier that feeds off of the workers, nothing more. He has shirked more contact in the last 2 games than most blokes do in a career

Agreed, especially regarding McCreary. He carried the team today.

As much as I want to agree, I don’t. There are ma my issues, including form which has left the lines of many players including Moore, and others in the backline. Th almost starry- eyed celebration of the Daicos boys signing was a distraction, but not enough to dismiss this, let’s be truthful, this poor loss. Wrong selections are a big factor. Lipinski, in the team for weeks now and virtually useless, no impact, no runner, a dud, should have been dropped weeks ago. Hoskin Elliot, on the other hand has been a consistent player, and selection, a very clean ball handler, balanced, and an experienced and cool presence. I was appalled to see him out, not at all happy. He is a snug fit into playing the clean ball handling and helter skelter game with his surety. I said in another stream how impressed I was with his outstanding back line play weeks ago in running down Adelaide’ s Doday .. it was a vice like grip, it was ball, it was a HE goal. He is and has been a consistent presence and doer both as a forward and back. I was appalled at him being dropped, particularly as he was part pf the ( at the time) 14-2 win ratio. The idiotic selectors have dumped him after the hand injury, a kick in the guts, pathetic. in relation to Johnston it’s been effectively demoralising for him that he has been in and out of the side, when his form warranted his continued selection particularly when season advances to blood him as a final player. But it is fair to say that the elders are tired ( Pendles and Sidey), and Mitchell is slowing down like a grandpa. We have lost Murphy now who is only a stopper, there hasn’t though been thrust forward plays in his style. So yehh, bad selections, poor form, and even an incorrect assessment of the quality of many players. It’s the Daicos bros that have had to do most of the “heavy lifting”, the run, to date, that hav kept us winning. It’s the others that are failing In the VFL there is no real runner…yes to replace Mitchell. I don’t rate Harrison ( perhaps yet), and rookie Finlay McRae is injured, and physically not ready, and not very quick. Frampton is needed in back line, but he is not a running type due to his height. The Pies were out marked everywhere today.

Hawks put the occasional game in that leaves us wondering how they are so low on the ladder.

Still 16-4 and cruising on top of the ladder. Just a flat spot is all I see. Clubs had 18 rounds before the “losing streak”to work the Pies out. Nothing to worry about until it becomes 3 losses in a row next week :silly:

Lack of forward pressure was evident. We need Cox in there to bring ball to ground and to relieve Cameron in the ruck. I don’t think we have have Ash Johnson and McStay in the same forward line. McCreary continues to impress. His development this year has been impressive.
