I wouldn’t call Grundy a role player but even if he was I am happy to get 4 role players. Depth is probably more important than ever. Franklin won the Swans a heap of games but not a flag. Anyway I know you like to argue so I shall happily agree to disagree but hopefully I will want to revisit the topic in 12 months time.

The Swans have already won the trade period - and it's set them up perfectly for another crack at a flag

Excellent article by Dem and silly comment by you even by your standards.
Dem stated that the 4 four players sets them up for a CRACk at the flag, not sets them up for a flag.
Only reason Grundy playing reserves was because he in the same team as a champion ruckman. He will clearly be an improvement on Hickey and Ladhams.
Jordon has been at the club with probably the best midfield group so he could be useful. If nothing else he should provide invaluable depth.
Swans 2022 grand finalists and 2023 finalists so the addition of best 22 players Grundy and Adams and depth players Jordon and Hamling puts them in a strong position for top 4 finish and a crack at the flag.
So I shall look forward to the next 2 years with optimism and hope whilst you can enjoy being your typical obstreperous self.

The Swans have already won the trade period - and it's set them up perfectly for another crack at a flag

Appalling and incorrect headline.
Terrible journalism designed to create reaction.
Interesting that Jordan Lewis who has suffered concussion from a very heavy collision thought the tribunal made the right decision as did Sam Docherty and most neutral commentators like Gerard Whateley and Jonathan Brown.

'Wanted to hit, wanted to hurt': Brayden Maynard - the guilty man found innocent

What a load of rubbish on a number of fronts.
Firstly you try to smother regardless of where you are on the ground. A smothered ball can’t be marked.
If it was so silly as you Maynard could be baulked then why wasn’t he.
You also seem to be a mind reader as to the intentions of Maynard and Collingwood.
Did Maynard also know that Brayshaw was also going to slightly change direction after kicking the ball.
Why would Maynard risk being suspended and miss a grand final.
I am a Swans supporter and no fan of Collingwood or Maynard but there has been so much emotive rubbish written on this site re this issue by people who have never been in a football situation remotely similar to Maynard’s. Much much quicker than any other level of football.
Ludicrous and irresponsible by the author to state that Maynard wanted to hit and hurt and disguise it. He needs to back such comments up with actual FACTS not guess work or mind reading.

'Wanted to hit, wanted to hurt': Brayden Maynard - the guilty man found innocent

I am a Swans supporter and don’t like Maynard but thought the correct decision was made. Can’t suspend the guy because he is a grub, or assume that his intention was always to bump Brayshaw. It always looked like a legitimate attempt to smother in my opinion. At normal speed the incident looked like an accidental collision. Assessing it in hindsight in slow motion gives a false impression of what Maynard could or should have down in half a second. Having said that I think that next year the rules will have been rewritten so that the same action will result in a suspension.

Maynard FREED: Pie cleared of rough conduct charge after marathon Tribunal hearing

Excellent article Tim. Agree with almost all you said. I however think Bombers have been a bit disappointing. At the start of the year I don’t think they were considered finals contender but also don’t think they were considered bottom 4 either. They were the only teams to get double up games against both North and West Coast. C- for me. Anyway excellent article.

Six Points: The coach killer to end all coach killers, and why score review system will always be imperfect

Tim. I don’t see how a draw is as good as a loss given their %. When you have a decent % and are above the teams on the same points as you are then a draw doesn’t improve your ladder position. Conversely if you have a poor percentage a draw, like a win puts you above those teams that you were on equal points with.

Footy Fix: Sure, the Swans' shocking kicking butchered a win... but the Cats blew it just as badly

I must say I haven’t experienced the confusion most people seemingly have. I can predict in the majority of cases which tackles will lead to a suspension. Furthermore confusion over the MRO and tribunal decisions is nothing new. I feel the issue has been blown out of proportion.
I agree that the AFL leadership hasn’t been great on the topic of tackles but am willing to give them to the beginning of next season to sort it out. But regardless of what they decide there will always be grey areas.

Nothing but propaganda: AFL showing pathetic leadership failure on the tackle issue

Indomitable Don or Delusional Don?

Either way I like your spirit if not even if you are annoying at times. Your optimism is more enjoyable than pessimism even if equally unrealistic.

Six Points: Getting back on the Blue bandwagon, fixing the MRO's biggest flaw, and the new dangerous tackle reality

Totally disagree re De Goey being eligible for the Brownlow.
If it was Daicos or Butters on the receiving end of that bump and they missed games and a possible Brownlow due to concussion how would it look if De Goey still won the Brownlow

TOM MORRIS: The immediate change AFL must make to save Brownlow Medal from embarrassment

I understand your logic Tom but disagree. I would prefer picks 4 & 5 to pick 1. Seems to me like putting all your eggs in the one basket. What happens if wants to leave after 2 years, or goes the way of Patton, Boyd or Watts. Also some stars at age 18 don’t have the scope for improvement that others do. I am not denying that he looks very good but give me 2 early picks every time.
No big deal if 3 early picks come out of contract at the same time. Also some draftees get contract extensions in their first year, others are duds that don’t get much of an increase in their second contract and some want to leave after 2 years. Seems like jumping at shadows to me.

TOM MORRIS: Harley Reid is a generational talent who could deliver elusive flag to GWS. How ambitious will the Giants be?

I will probably vote yes on the Voice Referendum but disagree with sporting bodies taking a public stance on such matters. It is not their role in my opinion. For those who think otherwise I would ask would you feel the same way if you disagreed with their stance. It is after all just personal opinion as to whether the stance is right or wrong.

Should Australian sport be raising its voice?

Maybe because of tall poppy syndrome, maybe because he is the biggest name at the Swans, maybe because some people think he has got off lightly by the MRO a few times, maybe because some people are morons and maybe because of mob mentality.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

Maybe because the indigenous player is the biggest star in the team. Not likely to boo McDonald Sheather Fox Campbell Rowbottom McLean etc. I am not suggesting that some Pies aren’t racists but imo probably not the main reason.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

Davico I don’t think people in general have tried to absolve Dr Goey. Some don’t mind his behaviour as bad as others as is their right. Whilst I don’t like De Goey behaviour and he needs to behave better in my opinion he is a victim as well in that the reaction to his behaviour has far outweighed the seriousness of his misbehavior. If his behaviour was so bad why hasn’t the woman objected or the police become involved. Poor behaviour but worth nothing more than a cautionary word or rap on the knuckles.

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Another nothing response Davico. I have an open mind. Happy to be educate me where I am wrong.
Nasty comment about my personal life. My wife died December 2015. I haven’t been on a date or had sex since because I treasured our relationship and don’t believe in casual sex or using women for personal gratification. I am no fan of De Goey or his behaviour but still believe that there has been a massive overreaction by the media. I also don’t like to judge people especially without the full story. Do you think the De Goey video deserved to be front page of the herald sun and lead story on the news. Last thing I knew there was a war going on plus earthquakes and floods etc etc

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Great response. You haven’t actually stated what is wrong with my opinion. I am simply saying that in my opinion there has been a massive overreaction to cheeky, crude or flirtatious behaviour by De Goey. If the girl, an adult friend of De Goey isn’t upset why should you be.

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Rubbish. Cam wasn’t the one who initially raised the issue of the De Goey’s video, he didn’t put it on the front page of a the newspaper or make it the lead story on the news. Nor has he made relentlessly pursued this issue like the mainstream media have. No comparison between his coverage and the media in general.

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Many of us think De Goey’s behaviour was poor but that doesn’t mean the media haven’t been way over the top in their reaction. Plus their is a difference between trying to expose the breast of a stranger versus that of a friend. Also different exposing a women’s breast in a bar versus a workplace or a church for example. None are good but some circumstances worse than others.

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Thanks Cam for your sensible article. A bit of commensense amongst all the hysteria and carry on.

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

Here Here!

Media and subsequently fans scrutinise players and umpires to the nth degree, find errors and then blow them way out of proportion. Happens unfortunately in seemingly all sports now. Very little focus on the fact that it was a very good game.

How the AFL has completely botched a noble quest for umpire respect and made them more despised than ever

My beef is with the rule makers rather than the umpires. AFL keep making an already difficult game to umpire more complicated each year. So many rules subject to interpretation.
As a Swans fan and member I don’t go to games anymore because of the excessive noise. No hope of holding a conversation let alone hear yourself think. Swans more interested in attracting new attendees via a so called exciting match day experience than appeasing traditional followers.

AFL NEWS: 'You're losing the fans'- Action demanded after 'whistle-fest', reports of mass ejection in Dreamtime chaos

” a man who has clearly lost control of a team that doesn’t want to play for him.”

Silly statement based on what evidence?
Would have lost to Saints if that was the case regardless of the conditions.

Forget the last three weeks, Ken Hinkley needs to go

Chris M. Very well articulated. Agree 100%

Muslim AFLW player explains call to not wear Giants' pride jumper as coach backs her in

Ken W. Why does Zrieka have to justify her actions by detailing the reasons behind her beliefs. She is entitled to her beliefs without having to broadcast the reasons for them.
Wouldn’t matter anyhow. Explaining one’s thinking rarely makes a difference regardless of what side of the fence one sits.
I presume you somehow believe your views to be more worthy of respect than Zreika’s even if others wouldn’t. All just a matter of opinion.
P.S I am an agnostic but will defend the right of people to express their opinions without being attacked unless they promote violence or hatred.
