The Raiders haven’t won a premiership since 1994. On that occasion 25 years ago, it was current coach Ricky Stuart who guided the green machine to glory.

Now, Stuart will look to send his chargers, led by a crop of English players in John Bateman, Elliot Whitehead and Josh Hodgson, who is slowly stamping his authority as a premier hooker in the NRL, towards another premiership.

But standing in their way is a Rooster side who are the best team in the competition. Coached well above the expected by Trent Robinson, they are looking to become the first team to go back-to-back on grand final day in a unified competition since the Brisbane Broncos did it in 1992 and 1993.

This will also serve as the final game in the glittering career of Cooper Cronk, who will have use of both his arms this year as he looks to go out a winner.

The Roosters have been a picture this year on the park, but more importantly, they are peaking at the right time of the season, putting teams to the sword at the pointy end.

The defence of Robinson’s side has been the noteworthy point, conceding just 14 points per game across the season, while their effort there in keeping the Storm out time and time again during last week’s preliminary final was outstanding.

The Raiders, on the other hand, have also built their defence strongly this year, but it’s their attack which will need to be crisp if they are to go with the Roosters.

While their finals wins over the Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs have been classy, they have been gritty, and their attack has, at times, looked clunky, which is something which wasn’t said a lot during the regular season.

Regardless, these two sides are fairly well-matched across the park, and they have put on two high-quality games throughout the season.

Prediction
The Raiders have the bandwagon, but the Roosters have the finals experience and the form. They should go back-to-back.

Roosters by 8.

Kurt that is not true ‘Having said that, Canberra had their chances but in the end it was Teddy’ as that was the Raiders go, to win it at the death and they were robbed! G. Sutton should not be refereeing in the NRL, Sutton is a shocker and the NRL keeps going persisting with him? The ‘6 again’ call was overruled by G. Sutton (he 100% that it wasn’t 6 again) not Cummings, Cummings made the right call!!! How does that work??? The NRL MUST LOOK AT THE REFS and how they have let the ‘FANS & GAME DOWN’ its essential after that performance from their two most experienced referees that they seriously review some of the rules and how they administrate ‘NRL GAMES’. This is what I’ve been complaining about for many many years and its happened in a GF ‘when will the NRL do something’??? Unfortunately, the game will lose allot of fans and allot of people will give the NRL up! Very sad that enthusiastic, far travelled fans that are willing to come so far to support the NRL are let down like this.

It's excellent to see Gus Crichton win a premiership. Lost fingers and lazy eyes turn occurences into moments.

It was the lame performances by Keary and Tedesco to attract penalties that I was referring to - soft as butter. And the booing of Wighton at the end of the game topped it off. The Roosters have no class and don't deserve to be respected.

Absolutely ridiculous that you have zero respect for the opposition for making the most of a lucky call that went their way. It's not their fault the ref made that call. what do you want them to do? Say oh sorry guys here have the ball that was a tough call. End of the day, the raiders had plenty of opportunity to win that game and didn't take it. The roosters had about 2 opportunities and they took the one that mattered. Not fair to write them off for that.

I've seen teams have repeated cracks at the opponents line and finally crack it to win the game. The Raiders were clear favorites to win the game when the six again was awarded.

Yeah, Leilua has always been a hog. If he passed that ball the Raiders win. Unbelievable. But then if the referees awarded a penalty try to Josh Papalii... ;-)

Like I said before, you are too good and fair minded to be a Roosters supporter Dutski. You must have been brainwashed.

Thanks Dutski - Raiders supporters have a team we can be very proud of - guess winning isn't everything but I would have loved our blokes to enjoy a premiership after 25 years

It’s probably best you turned the sound down...roosters fans booed Wighton and started chanting “bulls..t, bullish..t” Shocking form even without taking into account what had happened minutes earlier

I said g’day to Jarrod at a Jugiong pub not far from Yass a few weeks back – he was with a big mob of his family and friends – seems like a top bloke. Proud to have Jarrod and Josh as our captains.
