Cronulla have released a Paul Gallen retirement jersey and it's the worst thing we've ever seen

By The Roar / Editor

Cronulla Sharks legend Paul Gallen will hang the boots up at the end of the 2019 NRL season.

The 342-game veteran will retire as the club’s all-time leader in games played, as well as being the skipper for their long-awaited maiden premiership in 2016.

So, to send Gallen off in style, the Sharks will wear a special jersey in tribute of the great man when they play the Canberra Raiders in Round 24 – his last home-and-away game at Shark Park.

The only problem? It’s hideous.

What in the world is this? (Photo: Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks)

Where do you start with this monstrosity? A printed photo of Gallen on the jersey? What a mess.

Not a classy silhouette, not just a signature, not his name or nickname, a full-colour photograph plonked on the front of the jumper and it’s not even centred.

Then you’ve got an unnecessarily long list of career achievements next to it that’s far too hard to read on the field.

Moving further up you’ve got a local roofer sponsoring the thing which – no disrespect to Durakote, I’m sure they offer fantastic service – just makes the whole thing look like a local league jersey.

That’s not to mention the lack of any black on the shirt making the thing look more like a Gold Coast Titans shirt than Cronulla.

What do you think Roarers? Are we spot on, or too harsh? Let us know in the comments below.

Yeah that’s the worst part of it for me, just doesn’t look like a Sharks jumper

Can't be too bad, they sold 450 in two hours yesterday and apparently have ordered more

Maybe that is why Gal's photo isn't centred, there might be a special adults only version with ET's nude shot on the other side that's being released for for the especially discerning fan

It’s a poor effort by Cronulla to send off a club legend with that disaster of a jersey. Also couldn’t they remove the main sponsor for one match? And yeah that sponsor just reeks of a local amateur club.

You could get ScoMo to sign it and put it in a time capsule to be dug up in 100 years. I know some of you will say put ScoMo , Gal and the Jersey in a time capsule for 100 years.

Their premiership should be stripped. This is much worse than any PED or salary cap scandal.

Why have the Gold Coast Titans released a Paul Gallen tribute jersey?

A photo of Gal and ET crying on each other's shoulder would look better

Gallen looks and talks awful, so the jersey is a good fit.

Its not so much the advertising on jumpers that I have a problem with but when a company hijacks the club identity. For example Vodefone Warriors. I cringe every time I hear that phrase and would never buy anything from Vodefone because of it.

You can question many things about him but you can't question his on field contribution.

It was so much better when there wasn't advertising on the jerseys.

Over 300 club games. Captained his club to a Premiership, and state to a rare series win against arguable one of the best RL teams ever assembled. 3 time Dally M Lock of the year, Brad Fittler medal, Wally Lewis medal. Played 32 tests for Australia, Australian Vice Captain. Yeah he was an absolute no show as far as achievements go.
