'Grade-five stupidity': Elliott stood down, Bulldogs future at risk

By Scott Bailey / Wire

Adam Elliott’s future at Canterbury hangs in the balance after Bulldogs general manager accused him of “grade-five stupidity” for being kicked out of a restaurant.

Elliott has been stood down from the final two games of the NRL season by Canterbury, pending an investigation into why he was asked to leave a Gold Coast establishment.

It has since emerged that Elliott left to go to the toilets with NRLW player Millie Boyle.

Brisbane prop Boyle insisted all the pair did was kiss in the bathrooms.

Regardless, it’s the latest in a string of dramas for Elliott.

The back-rower was the face of the Bulldogs’ Mad Monday dramas in 2018, prompting him to later plead guilty to wilful and obscene exposure.

He was then back in the headlines at the start of the year when he was caught kissing former teammate Michael Lichaa’s partner at a house party.

That prompted the 26-year-old to give up drinking and begin attending alcohol counselling, before having his first drink again on Sunday.

Elliott spoke with NRL integrity unit investigators on Monday over the latest incident, with Gould confirming the restaurant had told the club that he complied with the venue’s exit orders.

“It’s grade-five stupidity at the moment,” Gould told Nine’s 100% Footy.

“Every time a player like Adam Elliott who has a list of priors puts himself out there to be criticised again, we drag up all of that.

“And that affects the club, it affects the brand, the sponsors, the fans, and particularly when the club is not performing very well it leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth who is associated with the club.

“It has to be dealt with swiftly, Adam understands that and we will deal with it as swiftly as we can.”

The integrity unit are also looking at whether any biosecurity rules were breached, including if the venue is classified as a restaurant rather than a pub.

They will also determine how Elliott and other players got to the venue, given public transport and ride-sharing is off limits under the protocols.

Gould said players had attended a club function on Sunday afternoon, before another function at the team hotel with players’ wives and families.

“Everyone at 8pm was told to go to bed, they did,” Gould said.

“A few of the girlfriends went out and then the partners went out and had a drink with them and come back.

“A few of the single blokes decided to tag along as well and that’s where they put themselves in this environment.”

Elliott re-signed with the Bulldogs until the end of 2023 last year, with the club having to fight hard to keep him with strong competition from the Warriors.

so they were in the mens dunny so technically - did HE do anything wrong? (apart from being the same twerp now and has learnt nothing from prior transgressions) So why has she received no fine / ban for being in the blokes dunny?

It’s certainly been done in the past. I believe the Warriors began on -4 one year back in the 2000s.

If you sent this story back to 1980 Gould and his teammates at the time would think we were winding them up.

I wish Adam Elliot a new lifestyle-milk and dumbbells. Alcohol is evil!

agree it must be on priors, because as an incident it seems a bit of a non-event

How about a Saints vs Sinners match? Trouble is the Saints side might be a little light on!

Albo, Millie is not on her own for making bad choices with men. Think of Premier Gladys and Dazzling Darryl from Wagga. And she 's supposed to be clever!

The players don't understand how hard it is to make money in the real world. They will learn.

yeah, I've never been able to work that one out. Been to more than a few sporting events where the girls dunnies are full - and so are the blokes, with girls.

which dunny were they in – blokes or Sheila’s? as is typical if the woman uses the blokes dunny then that is ok but if a bloke uses a sheila’s dunny he can be arrested

Looking at Adam Elliotts history. He doesn’t do malicious things, just stupid things

There's merit in that. However, I don't think that Elliott has the profile that Warner or SBW have (or the pictures). I'm not condoing the abuse of Candice in any way but this one will die off pretty quick.

Sweetheart, the daftest NRL player is a long way more educated than you. You hide like a child behind many different profiles. You serve no purpose or have any integrity to throw stones at anyone. Grow up.

Millie may not be sanctioned, but she will be the butt of crude jokes for many years. Elliott may lose his contract over this, whereas in the other infamous toilet tryst, Sonny Bill lost nothing, but has been lauded and put on a pedestal. Candice Warner on the other hand is still putting up with crude jokes at her expense, despite the incident happening years go and that she is now married and the mother of little girls.
