Scott can see purple headlights in his rear vision mirror so he's frantically doing up his seatbelt and stopping using antisocial media.
At least he's not over the speed limit, although he might just get done for holding up the traffic.
Rubbish. Is there any chance of you stating some actual facts rather than blind uninformed conjecture? Scotty always acknowledges the other team played better when we lose. It just doesn't happen very often. Your tedious anti Geelong bias is showing yet again.
Yes Sven I get all that but I did monitor my reading last year looking for shorter games complaining but I didn't see it in any great numbers on the platforms I scan anyway...
I'm just saying Aussie Rules is not primarily an endurance sport like many others which are not exactly weekly draw cards on the sportertainment spectrum.
It relies on skillfull highlights for its WOW factor and they transecend by a million miles any other facets such as fatigue. Folks tune in for the skills.
Obviously England has huge advantages population wise and distance wise so there is that.
I know Ballarat would work I can see that. The city would just back it to the hilt and it would soon become the biggest ever. Look what the Cats do for Geelong. Our thinking when crunching numbers can at times lack a a little dare and flare which is kind of the point of it all.
if u cant remember the flak over shortened games last year i suggest u dont remember too well, it was plentiful ..... aussie rules has always been a game of skill & endurance, about who can stay harder for longer .... if the number crunchers reckon tassie doesnt have the financial support for a team in the national comp, how the hell would towns like shepparton or mildura (to use your figure of 50k) ? ... people moan about the talent pool being spread too thin as it is, & u wanna dilute it further ? ..... dont think a comparison with england is too valid, they have 55 + million people there for starters (66+ if u wanna compare UK) to support their comp plus they draw players from all over the world
I don't remember a lot of flak for the shorter version in comments last year. All the complaints seemed to come in a bundle at the seasons end. Shorter games more often in an expanded competition with weekday games ala the festival of footy is my preference. Earlier starting times. Aussie Rules has earned a prime place in evening TV. All teams getting stand alone weekday games gives player promotion and identification clear air. Daylight clarity also to review one game while anticipating the next is a more ordered system. In the mind of young students completing homework to watch the 6.30 two hour game every night would be awesome. Games would be completed early enough for nightlife. Great for cities and Towns nationwide. I also think the war of attrition type mindset is asking for trouble in what is essentially a game of skill rather than an endurance sport. So much bash and crash drama for so long in the high stakes four points games is kind of asking for trouble.
If you are looking to make the industry safer and faster and more entertaining the more games for shorter time is an option that begs consideration. Also any town around the fifty thousand mark population and over with rich Aussie Rules credentials should have a team within the national competitions. Divisions work brilliantly in England. The could do the same here.
AFL is too small and there's so much space filled with B/S talk that could easily filled with simply more games with more teams.
Scott used to compete with Bucks but now he’s gone, its Hardwick. How can this statement help Geelong. It gives Fremantle some belief that they can do the Cats after five days rest.
Football causes injuries; therefore, the longer the quarter, the greater the number of injuries. They should reduce quarters to 1 minute, then we could have much fewer injuries and instead of being worried about 5 day turnarounds, we can play the whole season over one weekend.
This whole whine is so boring. For years congestion was killing the game because the bench rotations were keeping players fresh ... "we need some fatigue so the play opens up and scoring gets better" So we have had a progressive reduction in the rotations - something that the average mug in row ZZ of the Great Southern wouldn't even notice.
Now 20 minute quarters are too long, and Gerard Healy, Chris Fagan and Chris Scott have all now suggested that 'long quarters' cause injuries. This is a furphy. Stop it.
It's not us. It's you Scotty.
You and your boring fellow coaches have tried to ruin the game over the last decade and a half.
People go for their own teams, not your best players.
You couldn't win with 16 min quarters anyway.
amazing how before last year the league played normal length games without a problem ... of course in both '19 & '20 (even with a shortened game time) they were overrun by richmond who were able to stay harder for longer, so perhaps he thinks shorter games would benefit his team

Maybe don’t play Cameron when he had hamstring tightness just before the game might help you Chris.

Everything you've written here is wrong, which is a good effort considering how long your post is.

Freo already has that belief.

You've missed the reason for Scott's point. More games are not physically possible. More players is the opposite of what Scott is saying.

Whiner in chief again. He wants to recruit an old team and then change the rules mid season to suit his strategy.

Anybody would think quarters have never been 20mins before this year. Maybe they shouldn't have reduced the interchanges this year.?

Five day breaks are rubbish when against teams on seven or eight days break, but the full game time is needed.
